Draughtsman Truck Trailers

An established truck trailer and heavy vehicle manufacturer is looking for an experienced Mechanical Draughtsman to join its engineering and design team. This is an excellent opportunity for a technically strong draughtsperson with experience in trailer design, mechanical assemblies, structural fabrication and manufacturing drawings to play a key role in taking trailer designs from concept through to production.

ð??§ KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Develop detailed 2D manufacturing drawings and 3D CAD models for truck trailers and trailer components.
• Design and detail mechanical components, structural assemblies and trailer systems.
• Produce fabrication, welding, machining and assembly drawings .
• Develop general arrangement drawings, detailed component drawings and exploded views.
• Prepare and maintain Bills of Materials (BOMs) and technical documentation.
• Assist with the design and detailing of sheet-metal and structural steel components .
• Incorporate engineering changes and maintain accurate drawing revisions and document control.
• Ensure drawings contain appropriate dimensions, tolerances, materials and manufacturing information.
• Work closely with Mechanical Engineers, Design Engineers, Production, Fabrication, Procurement and Quality teams.
• Support production and workshop teams with technical drawing queries and manufacturing challenges.
• Assist with prototype development, testing and design improvements.
• Review existing trailer designs and implement improvements to manufacturability, cost and reliability.
• Ensure designs and drawings comply with applicable engineering standards, customer requirements and company specifications.
• Provide practical design solutions where manufacturing or assembly issues are identified.

ð??? MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• National Diploma, N6, Certificate or equivalent qualification in Mechanical Engineering / Mechanical Draughting / Engineering Draughting .
• 35+ years' experience in mechanical draughting, preferably within truck trailers, heavy vehicles, transport equipment or a similar manufacturing environment .
• Proven experience producing detailed manufacturing and fabrication drawings .
• Strong 3D CAD experience SolidWorks, Inventor, Creo, AutoCAD or similar .
• Good understanding of:
• Structural steel fabrication
• Sheet-metal design
• Welding and fabrication processes
• Mechanical assemblies
• Manufacturing methods
• Engineering drawings and tolerancing
• BOMs and drawing revision control
