Our client based in Germiston is seeking a Draughtsman/ Design Engineer to join their team in Germiston. Duties & Responsibilities
Job Summary: The Design Engineer {Draughtsman} is responsible for ensuring that all production drawings, SolidWorks models, DXF files, PDFs, and related technical documents are current, accurate, and properly controlled. This includes reviewing existing drawings, coordinating updates, and supporting the development of new designs and improvements to existing furnace products, equipment, trolleys, rigs, furnace furniture, and related workshop items.
This role requires close coordination with design and production teams, external customers, as well as external fabrication partners.
The Design Engineer {Draughtsman} is responsible for overseeing and coordinating workshop production activities for the client. The role ensures that furnace manufacturing, repairs, relines, and related fabrication work are completed efficiently, safely, on time, and to the required quality standards.
Key duties include managing workshop workflow, allocating tasks to production staff, monitoring job progress, ensuring materials and components are available, and maintaining communication between production, design, sales, and management.
The role requires strong practical workshop knowledge, attention to detail, leadership ability, and the ability to ensure that production work is carried out according to approved drawings, specifications, and company standards.
Key Responsibilities: - Standardise and maintain technical drawings for the client and its subsidiaries full product range. - Liaise with the Design Engineer to finalise designs for customer-specific equipment. - Liaise with external customer/s. - Prepare detailed manufacturing drawings for internal use and outsourced fabrication shops. - Oversee vehicle fleet scheduling and maintenance. - Handle procurement of sheet metal, steel, and other workshop materials. - Drive innovation in design and workshop processes. - Design production ready products.
Key Skills & Attributes: - Proficiency in CAD software (AutoCAD, SolidWorks, or similar). - Ability to produce fabrication-ready drawings and technical documentation. - Solid understanding of mechanical design and fabrication methods. - Solid understanding of sheet-metal. - Strong problem-solving and communication skills. - Good people acumen and conflict handling. - Organised, proactive, and capable of working independently or within a team
