Key Responsibilities/ Hoofverantwoordelikhede

• Design, develop, and maintain backend services (Java, Spring Boot) and frontend applications (Angular)

• Translate business requirements into reliable, well-scoped technical solutions in collaboration with analysts and stakeholders

• Design and optimise MySQL schemas, queries, and data migrations

• Build and consume RESTful APIs for integration between internal services and third parties

• Manage source control, code reviews, merge requests, and CI/CD pipelines through GitLab

• Investigate and resolve production incidents, perform root-cause analysis, and implement preventative fixes

• Monitor and improve system performance, stability, and scalability

• Apply secure coding practices, including access control, input validation, and protection of sensitive client data

• Write and maintain technical documentation, and contribute to unit and integration test coverage

• Participate in sprint planning, estimation, and release management

• Ontwerp, ontwikkel en onderhou backend-dienste (Java, Spring Boot) en frontend-toepassings (Angular).

• Vertaal besigheidsvereistes na betroubare, goed-gedefinieerde tegniese oplossings in samewerking met ontleders en belanghebbendes.

• Ontwerp en optimaliseer MySQL-skemas, navrae en datamigrasies.

• Bou en gebruik RESTful API’s vir integrasie tussen interne dienste en derde partye.

• Bestuur bronbeheer, kodehersienings, samevoegingsversoeke en CI/CD-pyplyne deur GitLab.

• Ondersoek en los produksie-voorvalle op, voer worteloorsaak-analises uit en implementeer voorkomende regstellings.

• Monitor en verbeter stelselwerkverrigting, stabiliteit en skaalbaarheid.

• Pas veilige koderingpraktyke toe, insluitend toegangsbeheer, invoerbekragtiging en beskerming van sensitiewe kliëntedata.

• Skryf en onderhou tegniese dokumentasie, en dra by tot eenheid- en integrasietoetsdekking.

• Neem deel aan sprintbeplanning, beraming en vrystellingbestuur.

Minimum Requirements/ Minimum Vereistes

• Relevant Computer Science or Software Engineering qualification, or equivalent demonstrable experience

• Minimum 5+ years of professional software development experience

• Experience in the financial services, insurance, pensions industy will be extremely adavtangtageous

• Strong proficiency in Java and the Spring ecosystem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security)

• Solid Angular experience (component architecture, RxJS, TypeScript)

• Strong relational database skills with MySQL — schema design, query optimisation, indexing

• Experience building and consuming REST APIs

• Experience with GitLab (or equivalent) for version control, code review, and CI/CD

• Proven track record supporting live, business-critical systems in production

• Strong understanding of secure coding, authentication/authorisation, access control, and data protection (e.g. POPIA/GDPR awareness)

• JPA/Hibernate and broader Spring offering (Spring Data, Spring Batch, Spring Cloud), linux server administration and shell scripting, docker and containerised deployments, cloud platform exposure (AWS, Azure, or GCP), microservices architecture and messaging (e.g. RabbitMQ, Kafka) and automated testing frameworks (JUnit, Mockito, Cypress/Karma) will be adavantageous

• Relevante Rekenaarwetenskap- of Sagteware-ingenieurskwalifikasie, of ekwivalente bewysbare ondervinding.

• Minimum 5+ jaar professionele sagteware-ontwikkelingsondervinding.

• Ondervinding in die finansiële dienste-, versekerings- of pensioensektor sal uiters voordelig wees.

• Sterk vaardigheid in Java en die Spring-ekosisteem (Spring Boot, Spring MVC, Spring Security).

• Goeie Angular-ondervinding (komponentargitektuur, RxJS, TypeScript).

• Sterk vaardighede met relasionele databasisse met MySQL — skema-ontwerp, navraagoptimalisering en indeksering.

• Ondervinding met die bou en gebruik van REST API’s.

• Ondervinding met GitLab (of soortgelyk) vir weergawebeheer, kodehersiening en CI/CD.

• Bewese rekord van ondersteuning van lewendige, besigheidskritieke stelsels in produksie.

• Sterk begrip van veilige kodering, verifikasie/magtiging, toegangsbeheer en databeskerming (bv. POPIA/GDPR-bewustheid).

• JPA/Hibernate en breër Spring-aanbiedinge (Spring Data, Spring Batch, Spring Cloud), Linux-bedieneradministrasie en dopskrifte, Docker en houergebaseerde ontplooiings, blootstelling aan wolkplatforms (AWS, Azure of GCP), mikrodienste-argitektuur en boodskapstelsels (bv. RabbitMQ, Kafka) en geoutomatiseerde toetsraamwerke (JUnit, Mockito, Cypress/Karma) sal voordelig wees.
