Job Title: Platform Engineer Start Date: 2026-07-02 - 2026-08-01 Vacancy Type: Contractor JHB000993 Sectors: Information Technology Telco Location: Gauteng , Johannesburg - Southern Suburbs Salary: Brief: Our client in the Communications Technology sector is seeking a Platform Engineer on a contract duration of 6 months. Role Purpose The Platform Engineer is responsible for designing, implementing and maintaining the engineering platform that enables the rapid, secure and reliable delivery of data products, analytics solutions and digital services. The role focuses on building self-service capabilities, CI/CD pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC) and platform automation across the Data Lake, GIS platform and Monetisation Portal, ensuring consistent, scalable and efficient software delivery. Detail: Key Responsibilities Design, build and maintain platform engineering capabilities supporting the Data Lake, GIS platform and Monetisation Portal. Develop and manage self-service "golden paths" that enable development teams to deploy solutions consistently and efficiently. Build, maintain and optimise Continuous Integration and Continuous Delivery (CI/CD) pipelines to automate application and data platform deployments. Develop and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using enterprise-approved automation tools. Standardise deployment patterns, platform configurations and operational processes across environments. Implement platform monitoring, logging and observability to ensure high availability and operational resilience. Collaborate with Cloud Engineers, Big Data Engineers, Solution Architects and development teams to support solution deployment and platform operations. Automate platform provisioning, configuration management and environment management. Ensure platform security, governance, compliance and operational standards are maintained. Support incident resolution, platform optimisation and continuous improvement initiatives. Qualifications & Experience Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline. 5–8 years' experience in Platform Engineering, DevOps or Cloud Engineering. Experience designing and supporting CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation. Hands-on experience with Infrastructure as Code (Terraform, Bicep, ARM Templates or similar). Experience with Azure cloud platforms and container technologies such as Kubernetes and Docker. Experience with source control systems such as Git and DevOps platforms (Azure DevOps or GitHub). Experience supporting enterprise data platforms, analytics environments or cloud-native applications is advantageous. Microsoft Azure, Kubernetes, Terraform or DevOps certifications are advantageous.
