Deputy Project Manager (Construction) / Construction Manager (Pr. CM) | Renewable Energy Project | Contract | Postmasburg, Northern Cape

Introduction

Our client, a global engineering and construction company, is seeking an experienced Deputy Project Manager (Construction) / Construction Manager to lead site construction activities for a large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) project in the Northern Cape. This is a project-based contract until November 2027.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Provide overall construction leadership and coordination across the project work fronts.

• Coordinate site activities across civil, PV, electrical and BESS construction.

• Manage and coordinate subcontractors to ensure construction activities are delivered safely, efficiently and in accordance with the project programme.

• Coordinate multiple parallel installation work fronts and ensure effective sequencing of activities.

• Oversee receipt, offloading and storage of Owner-supplied equipment in coordination with Procurement and Stores.

• Monitor construction progress, identify constraints and drive recovery and acceleration measures where required.

• Coordinate construction interfaces between Engineering, Procurement, Planning, Commercial, Quality and HSE.

• Provide input into construction planning, sequencing, resource requirements and execution strategy.

• Review subcontractor progress and performance and ensure compliance with project requirements.

• Support site meetings, progress reporting and construction coordination.

• Ensure construction activities are executed in accordance with approved drawings, specifications, ITPs, method statements and HSE requirements.

• Support mechanical completion, punch-list close-out and handover activities.

• Manage lifting and equipment-handling activities and ensure appropriate controls are implemented.

• Escalate construction risks, delays and technical issues to project leadership.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Construction Management or a related discipline.

• South African Council for the Project and Construction Management Professions (SACPCMP) registration as Pr. CM

• Minimum 8+ years' experience in construction/project management, preferably within EPC, renewable energy, power, mining or major infrastructure projects.

• Proven experience managing large-scale construction projects and multiple subcontractors.

• Strong experience coordinating civil, electrical and/or mechanical construction activities.

• Experience in solar PV, BESS, power generation or renewable energy projects will be highly advantageous.

• Proven ability to manage multiple work fronts and construction interfaces.

• Strong understanding of project schedules, construction methodologies, quality and OHSA requirements.

• Strong leadership, stakeholder management and problem-solving skills.

• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
