Depot Manager - Uitenhage

Introduction

The Depot Manager is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations within the depot, ensuring that key processes related to health and safety, security, employee relations, and legislation are adhered to. This role requires effective leadership in managing depot activities to ensure smooth and efficient operations, while maintaining the highest standards of service, safety, and compliance

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities & Tasks

Leadership & Management

Provide effective leadership in managing the daily operations of the depot, ensuring all transportation activities are executed efficiently, safely, and in line with company policies.

Resource Allocation & Optimization

Manage and optimize the allocation of resources, including personnel, vehicles, and equipment, to meet operational demands and ensure cost-effective and efficient operations.

Problem Solving & Operational Efficiency

Address operational challenges promptly, ensuring smooth workflow and timely issue resolution to minimize disruptions and maintain efficient depot operations.

Reporting & Communication

Provide accurate feedback and detailed reports (daily, weekly, and monthly) regarding depot operations, addressing any issues as required by the Director or senior management.

Process Improvement

Identify and implement continuous process improvements and operational efficiencies to enhance productivity, reduce costs, and improve overall performance.

Client Relationship Management

Visit clients regularly and build long-lasting, positive relationships with existing and new customers, as well as other relevant stakeholders.

Fleet & Depot Maintenance

Uphold the highest standards of care regarding the upkeep and image of both the fleet and the Johannesburg depot.

Operational Timeliness

Ensure that trucks experience a quick and efficient turnaround time within the depot, minimizing delays and ensuring smooth operations for the business.

• Proficient in computer literacy, including Microsoft Office and logistics software.

• Analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to make decisions under pressure.

• Ability to work independently, take initiative, and be self-sufficient.

• Bilingual (English and Afrikaans) is preferred.

Experience & Education

• National Matric Certificate (Grade 12) is essential.

• A B. Degree in Business Management or Logistics Management is advantageous.

• 5-10 years of logistics management experience, including specific experience in depot management.
