Introduction

We are building a governed data virtualization layer for a large South African mining client using Denodo. The role requires a hands-on Denodo specialist to design, build, and optimize a virtualized data layer that enables real-time reporting from Oracle ERP and other enterprise data sources without data replication. The successful candidate will work closely with client stakeholders and delivery teams to establish a scalable, secure, and high-performing data virtualization platform.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and support Denodo artefacts including base views, derived views, interface views, and published data services (JDBC, REST, and OData).
  • Build and optimize virtualized data models across Oracle ERP, databases, APIs, cloud platforms, files, and other enterprise applications.
  • Implement query optimization, caching strategies, performance tuning, and federated data access patterns.
  • Configure and maintain row-level and column-level security, role-based access controls, and data governance controls.
  • Perform data reconciliation and validation activities to ensure virtualized outputs accurately reflect source-system data.
  • Publish curated and governed data services for downstream reporting, analytics, and business intelligence platforms.
  • Collaborate with business and technical stakeholders to gather requirements, document solutions, and support agile delivery.
  • Provide technical leadership, knowledge transfer, and mentoring to client and project team members.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Minimum 5 years' hands-on experience delivering Denodo Data Virtualization solutions and 4+ years' experience in data engineering, integration, or related disciplines.
  • Mandatory Denodo Platform Developer Associate and/or Denodo Administrator Associate certification.
  • Strong experience with Denodo VDP, Data Catalog, Scheduler, VQL development, view modelling, and data service publishing.
  • Proven experience integrating Oracle ERP, Oracle databases, APIs, cloud platforms, and enterprise applications, supported by strong SQL and PL/SQL skills.
  • Deep understanding of data virtualization architecture, metadata management, lineage, semantic data layers, and governance frameworks.
  • Proficiency in SQL, data modelling, ETL/ELT concepts, REST/SOAP services, and enterprise data integration patterns.
  • Experience implementing and supporting security, governance, performance tuning, and data quality controls within Denodo.
  • Knowledge of modern data platforms including Microsoft Fabric, Azure, Snowflake, Databricks, Oracle, and enterprise data warehouse environments.
  • Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills with the ability to resolve complex performance and integration issues.

  • Strong stakeholder engagement and client-facing communication skills in English.
  • Excellent documentation, requirements gathering, and problem-solving capabilities.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
  • Experience coaching and mentoring junior resources.
  • Strong attention to detail with a disciplined approach to data validation and reconciliation.

Desirable

  • Advanced Denodo Professional certifications.
  • Experience delivering solutions within mining, industrial, or ERP-intensive environments.
  • Exposure to Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and enterprise data governance frameworks.
  • Experience optimizing large-scale federated data environments and high-volume reporting workloads.
  • Familiarity with agile delivery methodologies and DevOps practices.

Package & Remuneration

  • 6 - 12 month contract with the option to go perm
