Debtors Manager - Freight, Logistics & Courier Industry

Introduction

A well-established company within the Freight, Logistics and Courier industry is seeking an experienced Debtors Manager to join their finance team based in Boksburg . This opportunity is suited to a hands-on leader with a strong debt collection mindset who can effectively manage a busy debtors department, build strong client relationships, and ensure outstanding accounts are collected efficiently while maintaining excellent customer service.

The successful candidate will have extensive experience within the freight, logistics or courier sector, possess a solid understanding of industry-related queries and claims, and have proven leadership experience managing a debtors team.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Debtors Manager will be responsible for overseeing the full debtors function, managing a team of six staff members, ensuring debt collection targets are achieved, resolving account queries, and maintaining healthy cash flow through effective credit control processes.

Key Responsibilities

• Manage the day-to-day operations of the Debtors Department.

• Lead, mentor and develop a team of six staff members, including Debtors Clerks and Administrative personnel.

• Drive collections and ensure debtor days remain within company targets.

• Implement and maintain effective credit control procedures.

• Resolve complex customer queries and account disputes.

• Investigate and manage claims relating to freight and courier deliveries.

• Liaise with customers, branches and internal departments to resolve outstanding matters.

• Monitor customer accounts and minimise overdue balances.

• Produce monthly debtors reports and management information.

• Conduct regular age analysis reviews and follow up on overdue accounts.

• Ensure accurate account reconciliations.

• Maintain excellent relationships with customers while enforcing company credit policies.

• Assist with month-end processes and reporting.

• Ensure all departmental procedures are adhered to and continuously improved.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Matric (Grade 12).

• Relevant Finance, Accounting or Credit Management qualification will be advantageous.

• Minimum 5 years' experience managing a debtors department.

• Proven experience managing a team.

• Freight, Logistics or Courier industry experience is essential.

• Strong debt collection and credit control experience.

• Excellent knowledge of customer claims and freight-related account queries.

• Sound geographical knowledge of South Africa.

• Parcel Perfect experience is essential.

• Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.

• Strong communication, negotiation and conflict resolution abilities.

• Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.

• Excellent organisational and leadership skills.

• Hands-on management style with strong attention to detail.

• Experience handling high-value customer accounts.

• Strong reconciliation and collections experience.

• Experience resolving customer disputes and claims.

• Experience working within a high-volume freight, logistics or courier environment.
