Data Engineer

A diversified financial services and wealth management company in South Africa that provides professional financial advice, investment products, and insurance solutions, is seeking a  Data Engineer who will support a multi-tenant financial services data platform by building and maintaining reliable, auditable, and secure data pipelines in collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Responsibilities

• Pipeline & API Engineering: Build, maintain, and monitor daily/incremental ETL pipelines and Data Platform APIs to ingest, process, and expose data from APIs, databases, and event sources.

• Multi-Tenant Architecture: Enforce tenant-level data isolation using schemas, partitions, RBAC, and standardized configuration/naming conventions.

• Data Modeling & Analytics: Develop and maintain analytics and reporting models aligned with shared data architecture and business requirements.

• Client Onboarding & Support: Assist with client onboarding by validating source data, testing pipeline outputs, and troubleshooting failures or data quality issues.

• Security, Compliance & Audit: Ensure strict adherence to regulatory standards (e.g., POPIA), applying least-privilege access, encryption, data masking, and audit retention guidelines for PII/financial data.

Minimum Requirements

• Required: Degree in Data Science, Computer Science, IT, or equivalent.

• Required: Minimum 2 years of experience in a Data Engineering or similar technical role.

• Advantageous: Cloud Data Certifications; prior exposure to financial services, fintech, or regulated environments.

• Core Languages & Querying: Strong proficiency in Python, SQL (transformations, aggregation, integration), and C#.

• Data & Cloud Platforms: Experience with relational/non-relational databases, data warehousing concepts, and cloud-hosted data architectures.

• Engineering Best Practices: Practical knowledge of CI/CD, version control (Git), and data modeling.

• Cloud & Storage: Azure Data Lake Gen2, Blob Storage

• Databases: Azure SQL, PostgreSQL, Azure Synapse Analytics

• Integration & Compute: Azure Data Factory, Azure Web Apps

• Security & DevOps: Azure DevOps, Azure Entra (RBAC), Key Vault, Git, VS Code, Visual Studio
