- We are looking for an experienced Data Analyst with a strong Power BI focus to join our team in Cape Town. The successful candidate will be responsible for analysing data, developing insightful dashboards and reports, and working closely with business stakeholders to turn data into meaningful information that supports decision-making. This role requires strong hands-on experience with Power BI, SQL, data modelling and business reporting, as well as the ability to understand stakeholder requirements and translate them into clear, accurate and user-friendly analytical solutions.
What you'll do
- Design, develop and maintain interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
- Gather and understand business reporting and analytical requirements.
- Translate business requirements into effective data visualisations and reporting solutions.
- Extract, analyse and interpret data from multiple sources.
- Build and maintain Power BI data models.
- Develop measures, calculated columns and business logic using DAX.
- Transform and prepare data using Power Query.
- Write and optimise SQL queries for data extraction and analysis.
- Analyse trends, patterns and performance indicators to provide actionable business insights.
- Develop and maintain KPIs, metrics and management reporting.
- Ensure dashboards and reports are accurate, reliable and aligned with business requirements.
- Perform data validation, cleansing and quality checks.
- Identify inconsistencies and data quality issues and work with relevant teams to resolve them.
- Work closely with business stakeholders to understand how data can support operational and strategic decision-making.
- Present analytical findings and insights clearly to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Continuously improve existing dashboards, reporting processes and analytical solutions.
- Document business rules, report definitions, data sources and analytical processes.
- Collaborate with Data Engineers, Architects and other members of the wider data team.
Your Expertise
- Proven experience working as a Data Analyst, BI Analyst or similar role.
- Strong hands-on experience with Microsoft Power BI.
- Strong experience developing dashboards, reports and visualisations.
- Strong DAX skills.
- Experience using Power Query for data transformation.
- Strong SQL skills.
- Good understanding of relational databases and data structures.
- Strong understanding of data modelling principles.
- Experience working with large and complex datasets.
- Strong data analysis, cleansing and validation skills.
- Experience developing and maintaining KPIs and business metrics.
- Ability to gather and translate business requirements into reporting solutions.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong stakeholder engagement and communication skills.
- Ability to present data and insights in a clear and understandable way.
Power BI Experience
The successful candidate should have solid practical experience across areas such as:
- Power BI Desktop
- Power BI Service
- DAX
- Power Query
- Data modelling
- Dashboard and report development
- Data visualisation best practices
- Row-Level Security
- Scheduled refreshes
- Power BI workspaces
- Data gateways
- Report performance optimisation
- Publishing and distributing Power BI reports
Advantageous Experience

- Microsoft Fabric.
- Azure Data Factory.
- Azure Synapse Analytics.
- Azure Data Lake.
- Databricks.
- Snowflake.
- Python or R.
- Advanced Excel.
- Data warehousing environments.
- ETL/ELT processes.
- Data governance and data quality.
- Power BI administration or governance.
- Microsoft Power BI or Fabric certifications.
Qualifications
- Relevant degree or diploma in Data Analytics, Business Intelligence, Information Technology, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics or a related field.
- Relevant Microsoft Power BI or data certifications would be advantageous.
Ideal Candidate
- The ideal candidate is a hands-on Data Analyst with a strong passion for Power BI and data visualisation.
- They should be comfortable engaging directly with business stakeholders, understanding what information is needed and turning that requirement into dashboards and reports that are clear, accurate and easy to use.
- The candidate should be analytical, technically strong, detail-oriented and able to communicate insights effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
