Introduction

Credit Risk Modelling Team Lead

Location:  Cape Town, Eastern Suburbs.

We are partnering on an exciting opportunity for an experienced  Credit Risk Analyst  to join a growing financial services environment and play a key role in building and strengthening its credit risk capability.

This is not a maintenance role. We are looking for someone who enjoys  building, challenging and improving models , leading technical talent and translating complex credit risk data into meaningful commercial decisions.

Duties & Responsibilities

You will lead and contribute hands-on across the full credit risk modelling lifecycle, with responsibility for areas including:

  • Development, validation and monitoring of credit decisioning and affordability models , including application and behavioural scorecards.
  • IFRS 9 / Expected Credit Loss modelling , including PD, LGD, EAD and SICR methodologies.
  • Development and monitoring of risk-based pricing models and portfolio profitability.
  • Credit risk forecasting, provisioning and portfolio analytics.
  • Model governance, documentation and validation in line with SARB / Prudential Authority and audit expectations.
  • Producing meaningful risk analytics and presenting insights to senior stakeholders.
  • Leading, mentoring and developing a team while remaining technically hands-on.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • A relevant quantitative degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Actuarial Science, Economics, Engineering or similar.
  • 5+ years' relevant Credit Risk / Quantitative Analytics / Data Science experience.
  • Previous Team Lead experience.
  • Banking experience is essential.
  • Strong practical experience developing and/or validating predictive credit risk models.
  • Strong knowledge of IFRS 9 modelling – PD, LGD and EAD .
  • Exposure to credit decisioning, scorecards, affordability and/or risk-based pricing.
  • Strong SQL skills together with experience in SAS, Python or R ; SAS would be advantageous.
  • Exposure to data visualisation tools such as Power BI, Tableau or Looker.
  • The ability to communicate complex quantitative information clearly to senior and non-technical stakeholders.

Package & Remuneration

R1.3m – R1.5m CTC per annum, depending on experience.
