Job Description

  • The purpose of this role is to support the measurement and monitoring of credit, market and equity investment risks and provide support in relation to risk governance and oversight.

Key Responsibilities Credit, Market and Equity Investment Risk Governance and Oversight

  • Develop and maintain policies, frameworks and processes for lending and investment approvals to ensure effective credit risk management.
  • Manage and control the organisation's risk appetite process in line with approved risk criteria and guidelines.
  • Monitor credit risks at an enterprise-wide level, including equity investment risks, counterparty risks, sector risks, default risks, and concentration risks.
  • Develop, monitor, and review credit, market and equity investment risk policies to align with organisational goals and market best practice.
  • Contribute to the development, monitoring, and review of the DBSA risk appetite statement.
  • Provide independent oversight of the credit, equity investments and treasury function within the Bank.

Risk Analysis and Monitoring

  • Collect and collate information for market risk analysis in collaboration with the Treasury team.
  • Obtain data from relevant sources to monitor counterparty exposures effectively.
  • Maintain MIS systems to support the market risk analysis in their monitoring efforts.
  • Perform analytical assessments to evaluate the adequacy of provisions proposed by management.
  • Source MIS data from relevant systems and analyse to enable the monitoring of credit, market and equity investment risks.
  • Conduct assessments of treasury counterparties and credit protection providers.
  • Monitor prudential risk measures to ensure regulatory compliance.
  • Prepare and report on credit and investment risk exposures to relevant stakeholders.
  • Execute other duties as assigned to support the risk management function.
  • Improve efficiencies in risk reporting processes.

Key Measurements of Outputs

  • Accuracy and quality of credit and market risk assessments, analysis, and recommendations provided.
  • Timeliness of credit and market risk policy reviews, risk reporting, and risk monitoring activities.
  • Percentage compliance with approved risk management frameworks, regulatory requirements, and internal policies.
  • Effective monitoring of the adherence to set risk appetite levels, regulatory and organisational standards.
  • Effectiveness of credit risk monitoring, including identification of deteriorating exposures and early warning indicators.
  • Quality and accuracy of portfolio risk analysis.
  • Accuracy and completeness of risk models, financial analysis, and risk rating methodologies applied.
  • Effectiveness of market risk monitoring across interest rate, foreign exchange, liquidity, and investment exposures.
  • Quality and accuracy of reports and risk mitigation plans.
  • Clean audit.

Expertise & Technical Competencies Minimum Qualification

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Commerce, Finance, Risk Management or related.

Minimum Experience

  • A minimum of 8 years' experience in credit and or market risk management.
  • Understanding the SARB regulatory requirements relating to credit, market and equity investment risk
  • Proven understanding of legislation and regulations relevant to market and credit risk management and accounting, which affect the business of the bank, e.g., IFRS, Forex regulations, etc.
  • Knowledge of the SARB regulatory requirements relating to credit and market risk.
  • Proven understanding of Basel and other capital management guidelines.
  • Working knowledge of Quantum, SAP and other risk systems.

Desirable Requirements

  • A postgraduate qualification specialising in Risk Management.
  • Proficiency in using data analysis programming languages and tools such as SQL, R, Power BI, etc.
