Position title : Counter Poaching Unit Assistant Coordinator Duration: Fixed Term Contract (2 years) Reporting to: CPU Coordinator Location: Zinave National Park (ZNP) BACKGROUND Founded in 1997 by President Nelson Mandela, HRH Prince Bernhard of the Netherlands and Dr Anton Rupert, Peace Parks Foundation is a non-profit organisation pioneering conservation at scale across southern Africa. The Foundation’s Vision 2050 is to secure 17 fully functional transboundary landscapes spanning 980 000 km², making it one of the world’s largest land-based conservation initiatives. www.peaceparks.org JOB PROFILE You have experience in conservation-based law enforcement operations, ideally in a large-scale Southern African context, and a passion for conservation and environmental sustainability. In this role, you will ensure that law enforcement strategies and activities are planned, executed and finalised effectively. You can adopt and use technology with suitable administrative skills to ensure effective reporting and management, and are organized and detail-oriented, able to work under pressure in a remote field-based environment. JOB PURPOSE The Assistant Counter Poaching Coordinator will work closely with and be in support of the Peace Parks Foundation Counter Poaching (CPU) Team, head ranger and regional rangers based in Zinave National Park. He\she will report directly to the CPU Coordinator. The CPU is responsible for advising, supporting and assisting the park authorities with the implementation of their counter poaching and security-related strategy and related operations. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES Assist and support the CPU Coordinator with the management and control of the ZNP Protection Unit day-to-day operations, assets, and equipment control. Assist the CPU Coordinator in providing capacity building, training, and mentorship in support of efficient and effective Ranger deployments/operations in ZNP. Advise, assist, and support coordinated ZNP CPU operations. Advise, assist, and support the CPU Coordinator with the day-to-day activities of ZNP counter-poaching operations. Advise, assist, and support the operational requirements to ensure effectiveness and efficiencies of operations are achieved. Advise, assist, support, and mentor the control of the operations room. Assist with monitoring Earthranger data and feeds. Assist in financial oversight of cost-effective implementation of operations. Assist and support CPU Coordinator with financial management responsibilities including Budgets, Cash Flow, and Field Rangers’ (FR) incentives. Assist with oversight of internal quality assurance, including but not limited to all FR patrols, firearm handling, radio usage, training, air support, and K9 operations. Assist with the CPU project administration and reporting requirements, including monthly reports, training programme reporting, statistics, and incentive scheme reporting. Assist the CPU Coordinator in developing, fostering, and managing stakeholder engagement with all identified stakeholders to deliver both short- and long-term requirements.
