Start free — we apply for you →Job Title: Cost Controller Start Date: 2026-07-30 - 2026-08-29 Vacancy Type: Contractor PTA001794 Sectors: Mining and Quarrying Location: Gauteng , JHB - Eastern Suburbs Salary: (Market related) Brief: Cost Controller – Mining Project One of our clients, a leading mining operation , is seeking an experienced Cost Controller to join its team on a major mining project based in Heidelberg, Gauteng . The successful candidate will be responsible for monitoring, controlling and reporting on project costs to ensure the successful financial delivery of the project. The role requires close collaboration with project managers, engineers, procurement teams and contractors to ensure costs are accurately tracked, controlled and reported throughout the project lifecycle. Detail: Minimum Requirements: Grade 12 (Matric). National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Cost Management, Quantity Surveying, Finance, Accounting, Engineering or a related field. Minimum of 5 years' experience as a Cost Controller within the mining industry. Proven experience working on mining capital projects or shutdown projects. Strong understanding of project cost control principles, budgeting, forecasting, and cost reporting. Experience monitoring project expenditure, commitments, and cash flow. Working knowledge of procurement processes, purchase orders, contracts, and invoice verification. Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, with advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Experience using ERP systems such as SAP, Pronto, Oracle, or similar financial systems will be advantageous. Experience using project controls software such as Primavera P6 or Microsoft Project will be essential. Excellent analytical, numerical, and reporting skills. Willingness to work on-site in Heidelberg, Gauteng. Roles and Responsibilities: Cost Control Monitor and control project costs throughout the project lifecycle. Prepare and maintain project budgets, cost forecasts, and cash flow reports. Track project expenditure against approved budgets and identify cost variances. Prepare weekly and monthly cost reports for project management. Analyse financial data and recommend corrective actions where required. Monitor commitments, accruals, and project expenditure to ensure accurate financial reporting. Budgeting & Forecasting Assist with the preparation of project budgets and baseline cost estimates. Update cost forecasts based on project progress and anticipated expenditure. Monitor project commitments and forecast final project costs. Support financial planning and budget reviews throughout project execution. Procurement & Financial Administration Monitor purchase orders, supplier invoices, and payment applications. Verify contractor claims and invoices against approved work completed. Liaise with procurement regarding outstanding purchase orders and deliveries. Assist with contract cost tracking and payment certification. Ensure all project costs are correctly allocated and recorded. Reporting & Project Controls Prepare detailed cost reports, dashboards, and management reports. Track project progress against budgets, schedules, and financial targets. Maintain accurate cost records and supporting documentation. Identify cost risks and report potential budget overruns to project management. Assist with project audits and financial reviews. Stakeholder Coordination Work closely with Project Managers, Engineers, Quantity Surveyors, Procurement, Finance, Contractors, and Site Management. Attend project progress meetings and provide cost updates. Support project teams with financial information to assist decision-making. Ensure effective communication between all project stakeholders regarding project costs. Compliance & Governance Ensure compliance with company financial policies, procedures, and project controls. Maintain accurate project financial documentation for audit purposes. Ensure compliance with contractual requirements and reporting standards. Support continuous improvement initiatives within the project controls function. Promote adherence to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards on site.
