Duties & Responsibilities

  • Prepare and cook meals according to approved menus, recipes, and portion standards.
  • Assist with food preparation, ingredient preparation, and meal service.
  • Ensure food is presented attractively and served on time.
  • Maintain high standards of hygiene, food safety, and cleanliness.
  • Assist with stock control, stock rotation, and minimizing food wastage.
  • Ensure compliance with health, safety, and company policies and procedures.
  • Clean and maintain kitchen equipment, workstations, and food preparation areas.
  • Assist with costing, portion control, and reducing food waste.
  • Support the Chef and kitchen team in daily operations.
  • Ensure all food products are stored correctly and safely.
  • Step in to manage the kitchen in the absence of the Head Chef or Sous Chef.

Qualifications

  • Grade 12 / Matric.
  • Relevant Food Preparation or Culinary Qualification will be advantageous.
  • 2–3 years' experience in a similar role within catering, hospitality, healthcare, or food service environments.
  • Knowledge of food safety and hygiene standards.
  • Ability to work efficiently in a busy kitchen environment.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.
  • Reliable, punctual, and able to work flexible shifts when required.
