Start free — we apply for you →- A well-established and growing conveyancing firm, with its Head Office in the Western Cape, is looking for an experienced and driven Conveyancer to join our Midrand, Gauteng.
- This is a dynamic role combining conveyancing, Gauteng correspondent and lodging- agent responsibilities, client service, bond document signings and business development.
- The successful candidate will act as an important extension of our Western Cape Head Office in Gauteng, representing the firm's interests professionally while developing relationships and opportunities within the Gauteng property market.
To qualify for this position, you need
- LLB degree.
- Admitted Attorney and Conveyancer in South Africa.
- Approximately 3–7 years' post-admission conveyancing experience.
- Strong practical experience in property transfers and conveyancing.
- Commercially minded and comfortable with business development and networking.
- Proven Experience dealing with the Deeds Office.
- Experience with bond registrations and/or bond documentation.
- Experience attending to client signings will be advantageous.
- Previous experience as a correspondent or lodging agent will be advantageous.
- Willingness to travel within Gauteng for client meetings, signings, lodgements and business-development activities.
- A valid driver's licence and own reliable vehicle.
Duties and responsibilities include, but not limited to
Gauteng Correspondent & Lodging Agent
- Act as the firm's Gauteng correspondent and lodging agent for the Western Cape Head Office.
- Attend to lodgement and registration of matters at the relevant Gauteng Deeds Offices.
- Prepare matters for lodgement and ensure that documentation is complete and compliant.
- Monitor matters through the lodgement and registration process.
- Attend to Deeds Office queries, notes and rejections.
- Coordinate amendments, withdrawals and re-lodgements where necessary.
- Liaise with Deeds Office officials and other conveyancing firms.
- Provide accurate and regular updates to the Western Cape Head Office.
- Ensure that Gauteng matters are progressed efficiently and within agreed turnaround times.
Bond Document Signings
- Draft, review, and finalise conveyancing-related legal documents, including Powers of Attorney and bond documentation.
- Educate and guide clients on various legal and conveyancing matters, providing clear and practical advice.
- Attend to the signing of bond documents on behalf of clients, where required especially clients situated abroad.
- Provide feedback and progress updates to clients, and internal teams.
- Arrange and conduct client signing appointments.
- Verify client identification and ensure that the correct documents are presented for signature.
- Explain the signing process and ensure that documents are properly and fully executed.
- Return signed documents and supporting documentation to the relevant bond attorneys within the required timeframe.
- Keep records and database up to date.
Business Development & Marketing
- Act as a brand ambassador and representative of the firm in Gauteng.
- Develop and maintain strong professional relationships with estate agents, property developers, attorneys, bond originators, financial institutions and other property professionals.
- Identify opportunities to generate new conveyancing instructions and grow the firm's Gauteng client base.
- Promote the firm's conveyancing services and value proposition.
- Attend networking, property and industry events to develop the firm's presence in Gauteng.
- Conduct regular relationship-building meetings and visits with existing and prospective referral partners.
- Develop and maintain a strong Gauteng referral network.
- Identify emerging business opportunities within the Gauteng property market.
- Provide Head Office with feedback regarding market opportunities, competitors and potential referral sources.
- Support the firm's broader marketing and business-development initiatives.
- Work with Head Office to establish and achieve Gauteng business-development targets.
Client & Stakeholder Management
- Provide professional, responsive and solution-focused service to clients and stakeholders.
- Maintain effective communication with the Western Cape Head Office.
- Build strong relationships with referral partners and professional stakeholders.
- Provide proactive updates on the progress of matters.
- Resolve routine queries and escalate complex or sensitive matters appropriately.
- Represent the firm's values and professional standards in all interactions.
Administration, Reporting & Risk Management
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date matter records and systems.
- Ensure all relevant documentation and correspondence is properly recorded and filed.
- Provide regular reports to Head Office regarding lodgements, registrations, queries, rejections and outstanding matters.
- Monitor deadlines and prioritise urgent matters.
- Comply with all firm policies, procedures and SLAs.
- Identify and escalate legal, operational and financial risks.
- Maintain strict confidentiality of client and firm information.
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, including the Legal Practice Act and FICA requirements.
