Control Systems Engineer – Pretoria

We are recruiting on behalf of a well-established engineering firm specialising in electrical design and industrial automation solutions. They are expanding their control systems team and are seeking a Control Systems Engineer with strong software development experience across PLC and SCADA platforms. This role sits on the software side of automation projects, covering design and development through to commissioning and ongoing client support. Duties & Responsibilities

Duties & Responsibilities

• Develop, configure and test PLC control software for industrial automation projects

• Design and develop SCADA and HMI applications, including graphics, alarming, trending and reporting

• Integrate control systems with instrumentation, drives, field devices and databases using industrial communication protocols

• Interpret process descriptions and functional specifications, and translate these into control system software

• Prepare and execute factory acceptance testing and site acceptance testing

• Participate in installation, commissioning, optimisation and handover of control systems on client sites

• Diagnose and resolve control system faults, perform root cause analysis and implement corrective solutions

• Compile functional design specifications, software documentation and as-built records

• Provide technical support to clients during and after commissioning

• Collaborate with the electrical design team to align software scope with hardware and panel design

• Ensure all work complies with company quality systems, safety standards and applicable engineering standards

Experience & Qualifications

• BEng, BSc Eng or BTech in Electrical Engineering, Mechatronics, Process Instrumentation or a related discipline

• ECSA registration as a Candidate Engineer or Candidate Engineering Technologist (advantageous)

• 3 to 8 years' hands-on PLC and SCADA software development experience

• Programming experience on Siemens (TIA Portal or Step 7), Allen-Bradley or Schneider platforms

• SCADA and HMI development experience on platforms such as AVEVA, Wonderware, FactoryTalk or comparable systems

• Working knowledge of industrial communication protocols, including Profibus, Profinet and Modbus

• Instrumentation and process control exposure

• Proven commissioning and fault-finding experience in a live plant environment

• Exposure to industrial plant, mining, water or process environments (advantageous)

• Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail and client-facing communication skills

Location: Pretoria-based, with travel to project sites as required.
