Consulting Mechanical Engineer Building Services

Our client, a leading consulting engineering practice, is seeking an experienced and technically capable Consulting Mechanical Engineer Building Services to join their multidisciplinary team. The successful candidate will be responsible for the design, analysis, specification and project delivery of mechanical building services systems across a variety of commercial, industrial, residential, healthcare and institutional developments. This role is suited to an engineer who can take ownership of projects, engage confidently with clients and multidisciplinary teams, and deliver high-quality engineering solutions from concept through to construction and commissioning.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Design and develop mechanical building services systems in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
• Prepare mechanical engineering designs, calculations, specifications and technical reports.
• Design and specify HVAC, ventilation, air-conditioning and mechanical services for buildings.
• Develop equipment schedules, design drawings, specifications and tender documentation.
• Perform heating and cooling load calculations and system sizing.
• Select appropriate mechanical equipment and components.
• Coordinate mechanical designs with architectural, electrical, structural and other building services disciplines.
• Review architectural drawings and develop practical mechanical services layouts.
• Prepare and review tender documentation and assist with contractor procurement.
• Evaluate technical submissions, quotations and equipment selections.
• Attend project meetings and coordinate technical requirements with clients, contractors and consultants.
• Conduct site inspections and monitor mechanical installations during construction.
• Review contractor drawings, technical submissions and installation quality.
• Assist with testing, balancing, commissioning and handover of mechanical systems.
• Identify and resolve technical problems during design and construction phases.
• Manage engineering deliverables, project timelines and technical quality.
• Provide technical guidance and mentorship to junior engineers and technicians.
• Ensure designs comply with relevant SANS standards, building regulations, industry standards and client specifications .
• Assist with project cost estimates, budgets and variation assessments.
• Maintain accurate project documentation and engineering records.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

• BEng/BSc/BTech in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
• 35 years' relevant experience in consulting engineering and building services.
• Proven experience in mechanical building services design .
• Strong knowledge of HVAC and ventilation syste
