The Applicant will be full time on site and responsible for overseeing the planning, coordination and execution of various civil engineering projects. These projects include the construction of infrastructure such as roads, bridges, tunnels and other public works. The Construction Manager ensures that projects meet all safety, quality, and environmental standards and are completed on time and within budget. The Construction Manager will be reporting directly to the Contract Manager and Company Management.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Project Planning and Management:
- Develop detailed project plans, including timelines, budgets and resource allocation.
- Coordinate with engineers and other stakeholders to finalise project specifications and plans.
- Prepare and negotiate project contracts and ensure compliance with all terms and conditions.
- Team Coordination and Leadership:
- Supervise and coordinate the work of the construction team, including subcontractors and labourers.
- Conduct regular site meetings to monitor progress and address any issues that arise.
- Provide guidance and support to the construction team to ensure high standards of work and efficiency.
- Budget and Cost Management:
- Monitor project costs and ensure they remain within budget.
- Identify and address any potential cost overruns and implement corrective measures as necessary.
- Review and approve invoices, change orders and other financial documents related to the project.
- Quality Control and Compliance:
- Ensure that all construction activities comply with safety regulations, building codes and industry standards.
- Conduct regular inspections to ensure the quality of workmanship and materials used.
- Address any non-compliance issues promptly and implement corrective actions.
- Risk Management:
- Identify potential risks and develop strategies to mitigate them.
- Ensure that all safety protocols are strictly followed to prevent accidents and injuries.
- Prepare and implement contingency plans for unexpected challenges or delays.
- Stakeholder Communication:
- Maintain effective communication with clients, architects, engineers and other stakeholders.
- Provide regular updates on project progress and address any concerns or questions from stakeholders.
- Foster positive relationships with all project participants to facilitate smooth project execution.
- Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of project activities including progress reports, budgets and schedules.
- Prepare and submit regular project status reports to senior management.
- Ensure all project documentation is complete and archived appropriately upon project completion.
- Technology and Tools:
- Utilise project management software and other tools to track project progress and manage resources.
- Stay updated with the latest construction technologies and techniques to improve efficiency and quality.
Desired Experience and Qualification
- BEng/BSc/BTech in Engineering or Construction Management
- Professional Registration as PrEng or PrTechEng with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) or any other equivalent registration with an International Body recognised by ECSA i.e. Washington Accord, Dublin Accord and Sydney Accord OR Professional Registration with SACPCMP as PrCM will be an advantage
- 5 years of Construction experience
- Proven working experience in Construction Management
- Advanced knowledge of Construction Management processes, means and methods
- Expert knowledge of building products, construction details and relevant rules, regulations and quality standards
- Understanding of all facets of the construction process
- Familiarity with Construction Management software packages
- Ability to plan and see the “big picture”
- Competent in conflict and crisis management
- Leadership and human resources management skills
- Excellent time and project management skills
