  • Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa Zeitz MOCAA is looking for a Communications and PR Specialist to join the team. The Communications and PR Specialist is to work alongside the Head of Institutional Advancement together with the Communications Manager, Marketing Manager, and the rest of the Communications & Marketing Team. This role is responsible for delivering against all elements of public relations and communications, including media relations, editorial, and digital communications. The role aims to ensure consistent institutional messaging and operational excellence across all communications channels and digital platforms, including but is not limited to the Zeitz MOCAA website, social media channels, and e-newsletters.

Key Areas of Responsibility

  • The role is primarily responsible for supporting Zeitz MOCAA's communications and public relations activities, ensuring that the Museum's work, programmes and stories are effectively communicated to both internal and external audiences.
  • A key focus of the role is media and public relations, which includes building and maintaining relationships with journalists and media, coordinating interviews and media visits, preparing media releases and pitches, responding to routine media enquiries, and monitoring coverage to support the Museum's reputation and visibility.
  • The role also supports editorial and digital content development, working across websites, newsletters and social media. This involves researching and fact-checking information, writing and editing content, maintaining the editorial calendar, coordinating approvals and ensuring that all published content aligns with the Museum's brand and editorial standards.
  • Another important area is communications and campaign coordination. The role assists with implementing communication plans and campaigns, coordinating briefs, content and production timelines, and supporting PR and communications activities around exhibitions, public programmes and events.
  • The role is also responsible for monitoring and reporting on communications activity, including tracking media coverage, sentiment, industry trends and key performance indicators. This information is used to compile regular and campaign-specific reports and provide insights into the effectiveness of communications activity.
  • This role provides operational and administrative support to the Communications and Marketing teams. This includes maintaining communications systems and records, coordinating financial administration, obtaining quotes, processing invoices, raising and managing purchase orders, preparing cash flow schedules and liaising with Finance to ensure that communications-related processes are completed efficiently and timeously.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Tertiary education in a design, marketing or arts-related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience, with a portfolio of work showing examples of writing for brands and social media.
  • Portfolio of design and photography work.

  • Communication & audience engagement: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to translate complex curatorial content into accessible, engaging narratives for broader audiences.
  • Creative & visual content: Strong interest in arts and culture, with experience in photography, videography, video/photo editing, animation and graphic design.
  • Digital & social media: Ability to develop and optimise engaging digital content, integrate earned media, manage social media platforms, and use tools such as "link in bio" platforms and website media toolkits.
  • Project & media management: Excellent organisational, project and time management skills, including scheduling, content packaging, sign-off, publishing, reporting and media archiving.
  • Analytical & technical capability: Strong analytical and computer skills, with proficiency in Microsoft Office and, advantageously, Adobe Creative Suite and InDesign.
  • Collaboration & interpersonal skills: Excellent interpersonal and customer responsiveness skills, with the ability to work effectively within a team and across multiple stakeholders.
  • Adaptability & resilience: Able to multitask, manage competing priorities and deadlines, remain calm and professional during challenging or crisis situations.
  • Initiative & self-management: Highly proactive, self-motivated and able to work independently while maintaining high standards of quality and attention to detail.
