Commercial Manager | Renewable Energy Project | Contract | Postmasburg, Northern Cape

Introduction

Our client, a global engineering and construction company, is seeking an experienced Commercial Manager to oversee the commercial and contractual functions for a large-scale solar PV and battery energy storage (BESS) project in the Northern Cape. This is a project-based contract until November 2027.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Lead the commercial management function for the project.

• Manage project commercial activities including cost control, valuations, contracts, variations, claims and commercial reporting.

• Monitor project financial performance against approved budgets and forecasts.

• Manage and administer subcontract and supplier agreements.

• Review and assess contractual obligations, risks, variations and potential claims.

• Manage the preparation, submission and assessment of variations and claims.

• Monitor subcontractor commercial performance and contractual compliance.

• Prepare commercial reports, forecasts and cost-to-complete information.

• Support project progress reporting and commercial decision-making.

• Work closely with the Project Manager, Construction, Procurement, Planning and Finance teams.

• Identify commercial risks and opportunities and provide recommendations to project leadership.

• Ensure appropriate documentation and records are maintained for contractual and commercial matters.

• Support contract negotiations and commercial close-out.

• Ensure project activities are aligned with contractual requirements and commercial procedures.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Degree or Diploma in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, Construction Management, Engineering, Finance or a related discipline.

• Minimum 8–10 years' commercial/contracts experience within EPC, construction, energy, mining or major infrastructure projects.

• Proven experience in contract administration, variations, claims, valuations and cost control.

• Strong understanding of construction and EPC contracts.

• Experience managing subcontractor commercial interfaces.

• Strong financial and commercial reporting skills.

• Experience on solar PV, BESS, renewable energy or power projects will be advantageous.

• Strong analytical, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.

• Proficiency in relevant commercial/ERP/project management systems.

• Valid driver’s license and own vehicle.
