Fitter & Turner – Precision Manufacturing

A well-established manufacturing environment is seeking an experienced Fitter & Turner to join its production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for manufacturing, fitting, assembling, finishing and inspecting precision components according to engineering drawings and specifications, while working within tight tolerances. Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

• Manufacture precision components using turning, milling, drilling, tapping, grinding, deburring and finishing techniques.

• Support CNC production through machine setup assistance, component loading and positioning, first-off inspections and in-process quality checks.

• Operate conventional lathes, milling machines and drills for one-off and small-batch components and specialised repairs.

• Manufacture, assemble and maintain tooling, jigs and fixtures.

• Fit and assemble precision components by hand, ensuring correct fit and functionality.

• Interpret engineering drawings, dimensions and tolerances accurately.

• Conduct dimensional inspections using verniers, micrometers, dial indicators, bore gauges and height gauges.

• Identify and report non-conforming components while minimising scrap and rework.

• Meet production targets and prioritise work according to production schedules.

• Maintain accurate production and quality records.

• Maintain a clean, safe and organised workstation.

• Work closely with CNC operators, programmers, production and quality teams.

• Identify opportunities for process and production improvements.

Requirements

• Red Seal Fitter & Turner Trade Certificate – Essential

• Minimum 5 years’ post-trade experience preferred .

• Proven experience within a precision manufacturing or machining environment.

• Strong engineering drawing interpretation skills.

• Experience working to tight tolerances.

• Strong conventional machining experience.

• Proven experience using precision measuring equipment.

• Experience with turning, milling, drilling, tapping, grinding and fitting.

Advantageous Experience

• CNC machining, setup and workholding.

• CNC lathes or machining centres.

• Toolmaking.

• Jig and fixture manufacture.

• Small-batch or specialised production.

• Experience within high-precision manufacturing environments such as aerospace, automotive or defence.

Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate will be a highly skilled and hands-on Fitter & Turner who has progressed beyond general fitting into precision manufacturing. The successful candidate should be comfortable interpreting engineering drawings, selecting the correct machining and fitting methods, producing precision components and accurately inspecting finished work. The individual should be precision-focused, reliable, quality-driven and able to work under pressure with limited supervision . Strong problem-solving ability, attention to detail, accountability and the ability to work effectively within a production team are essential. Please note: Candidates whose experience is primarily in general maintenance, building/plant maintenance, plumbing, general fabrication or construction fitting will not be prioritised, as this is a production and precision machining role .
