CNC / EDM Machinist – Milling, Turning & Wire Cutting Location: Boksburg, Gauteng

Key Responsibilities

• Set up, program, and operate CNC milling, CNC turning, wire EDM, and sinker EDM machines.
• Manufacture precision-engineered components in accordance with engineering drawings and customer specifications.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, CAD drawings, and machining instructions.
• Select appropriate tooling, fixtures, electrodes, cutting parameters, and machine settings.
• Perform machine setups, tool changes, work offsets, and program adjustments.
• Conduct first-off inspections and in-process quality checks to ensure components meet specified tolerances.
• Measure finished components using precision measuring equipment, including verniers, micrometers, bore gauges, dial indicators, and height gauges.
• Produce complex profiles and precision components using wire EDM and spark erosion processes.
• Troubleshoot machining issues and implement corrective actions to minimise downtime.
• Perform routine preventative maintenance on CNC and EDM machinery.
• Collaborate with engineering and production teams to improve manufacturing processes and production efficiency.
• Ensure compliance with quality standards, production schedules, and workplace safety requirements.
• Maintain accurate production records and ensure good housekeeping within the workshop.

Minimum Requirements

• Trade qualification as a Toolmaker, Machinist, Fitter & Turner, or equivalent (advantageous).
• Minimum of 3–5 years' experience operating CNC milling, CNC turning, Wire EDM, and/or Sinker EDM machines within a precision engineering or tooling environment.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and geometric tolerances (GD&T).
• Experience machining various materials, including hardened steel, stainless steel, aluminium, and engineering plastics.
• Proficient in the use of precision measuring instruments.
• Experience with CNC programming and CAD/CAM software will be advantageous.
• Valid driver's licence is advantageous.
