- Minimum educational qualification: Appropriate qualification that allows for the required registration with the Health Professions Council of South Africa as a Clinical Psychologist. Registration with a professional council: Registration with the HPCSA as a Clinical Psychologist.
Experience
- Grade 1: None after registration as with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. 1 Year relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as a Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
- Grade 2: A minimum of 8 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. Minimum of 9 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa.
- Grade 3: A minimum of 16 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of RSA qualified employees. A minimum of 17 years relevant experience after registration with the HPCSA as Psychologist in respect of foreign qualified employees, of whom it is not required to perform Community Service, as required in South Africa. Inherent requirement of the job: Willingness to perform after hour duties, including weekends and Public Holidays as operational needs so demand.
- Competencies knowledge/skills: Appropriate experience with mental health care users in both in and outpatient clinical settings and management of such services. Design and conduct research, academic teaching, training and supervision of interns and community service clinical psychologists. The ability to assess, diagnose, and treat psychological disorders, communicate effectively, work ethically, think critically, and provide culturally sensitive care.
DUTIES
- Assess, diagnose, and treat psychological disorders, communicate effectively, work ethically, think critically, and provide culturally sensitive care. Deliver and evaluate a comprehensive psychological service to mental health care users at Lentegeur Hospital. Train and supervise intern clinical psychologists in line with HPCSA guidelines. Provide consultation to other health professionals. Provide outreach to strengthening the health system with the catchment area. -Fully participate in and attend academic activities of the associated department of psychiatry and mental health including research, teaching and social responsiveness activities related to joint appointments.
