Start free — we apply for you →Hulamin is looking for a suitably qualified and experienced Chemical Laboratory Technician to join the Chemical Laboratory department. This position is based in Hulamin Pietermarizburg.
Duties & Responsibilities
- Sampling of Chemicals, Oils, and other Raw Materials.
- Performing quality tests to release products to internal and external customers.
- Preparing chemicals for test procedures.
- Reporting results to relevant plant personnel.
- Recording and archiving samples and data.
- Assistance in the general functioning of the laboratories, including housekeeping.
- Conduct routine and non-routine analysis.
- To verify and calibrate laboratory equipment.
- To ensure that all chemical testing is conducted and completed in the expected time
- Managing and implementing Safety, Health, and Environment (SHE) practices in accordance with the laboratory regulations.
- Preparing metal samples (including the use of a metal lathe, bandsaw, and circular saw)
- Perform plant functions when required.
- Development of lab test methods, Standard procedures and Standard Operating Procedures.
- Initiate and participate in Continuous Improvement projects
Desired Experience & Qualification
- B-Tech or BSc in chemistry or Analytical Chemistry (Honours will be an advantage).
- Minimum 2-3 years’ experience in a laboratory environment.
- Experience in Production or Manufacturing environment.
- Knowledge of FTIR Microscopic, XRF, Gas Chromatography or other analytical instrument and chemical characterization.
- Basic understanding of water chemistry.
- Good understanding of 6S, chemical compatibility and document management system
- Excellent analytical skills, with the ability to use analytical, quality and project management tools.
- The ability to interpret test results to add value to plant process control.
- Experience and understanding of laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Understanding of ISO 17025:2017 (certificate of competence is an advantage).
