The Opportunity: Business Unit Manager
To provide management functions that include all areas as they pertain to the Business Unit
excluding management of the lecturers and sales but including all other resources and systems that are
implemented for the ultimate successful marketing, sales, and delivery of Business Unit training solutions.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities
Training Portfolio & Product Management
Maintain a current, relevant, and continuously evolving Business Unit training offering.
Ensure all training (onsite, offsite, remote) is delivered with the correct skills, equipment, resources, and facilities.
Design and develop training solutions for tenders, client requests, and customised proposals.
Research and introduce new training offerings and ensure lecturers become certified to deliver them.
Maintain a strong technical understanding of Business Unit products, partner programmes, and industry trends.
Manage curriculum development, programme execution, logistics, administration, and delivery of direct vendor training programmes.
Ensure all vendor requirements, KPIs, product releases, and operational standards are met.
Sales Support & Revenue Growth
Train and develop the sales team to fully understand Business Unit product sets.
Create and maintain up-to-date sales tools: course outlines, certification paths, data sheets, and partner programme guides.
Work with Sales, National and Regional Managers to promote the Business Unit offering and grow revenue.
Identify opportunities within named accounts and support sales in selling software assurance and other training solutions.
Provide product support, client meeting attendance, proposal writing, and solution-based selling input.
Develop alternative sales avenues such as workshops, labs, and First Look Clinics.
Build and grow sales within the partner community.
Provide accurate forecasting to vendors and contribute market intelligence reports.
Vendor, Channel & Client Relationship Management
Build strong relationships with vendors, the Microsoft channel, partners, and industry bodies.
Represent Torque IT at industry events, partner forums, and vendor engagements.
Support vendors in meeting their training requirements and assist customers in attaining vendor partner status.
Manage all aspects of the vendor relationship and ensure alignment with their focus areas.
Initiate partnerships with external organisations to expand Business Unit reach.
Maintain up-to-date partner portal and website content related to the Business Unit.
Operational, Administrative & Financial Management
Ensure all Business Unit financial targets, as set by the Financial Director, are achieved.
Provide performance reports, competitor insights, and updates on business plan deliverables.
Maintain Business Unit business plans and ensure execution of all deliverables.
Oversee procurement of training-related equipment, ensuring cost-effective purchasing.
Manage the scheduling of training across all branches and oversee Monday registration processes.
Ensure efficient LMS integration with internal systems and optimise exam delivery processes.
Manage exam logistics, invigilation, purchasing, reporting, and financial obligations.
Ensure operational, logistical, and administrative requirements for all training solutions are met.
Conduct regular coordination with Training Managers on instructor logistics, resource planning, and facility bookings.
Team Leadership & Staff Management
Manage all aspects of team employment including hiring, training, mentoring, evaluating, motivating, and disciplining staff.
Provide ongoing guidance, knowledge transfer, and support to assistants and lecturers.
Maintain updated job descriptions and ensure staff understand and meet role expectations.
Validate work performed by assistants and ensure alignment of schedules across systems.
Support other business units where required and maintain strong relationships with internal stakeholders.
Customer Engagement & Market Presence
Meet with internal and external clients (up to board level) regarding product updates and training solutions.
Respond to customer enquiries received via the web and provide suitable training solutions.
Support marketing initiatives, contribute to marketing plans, participate in vendor events, and assist with marketing collaboration efforts.
Participate in partner award submissions and represent the Business Unit in all related forums.
Continuous Improvement & Compliance
Stay current with industry trends, vendor product releases, and new technologies.
Maintain personal development and ensure the Business Unit remains competitive and innovative.
Define and document processes for delivering exams and training solutions.
Ensure compliance with all internal procedures, vendor standards, and operational frameworks.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Must be proficient in the use of MS Office suite at an advanced level
Must have significant experience and understanding of the IT training industry specifically around the primary vendors whose authorized training Torque IT facilitates. This includes the associated certification paths and lecturer certification and “learning partner” requirements
Must have significant vendor relationship management and project management experience
Must have significant problem-solving experience
5+ years’ experience in an IT training industry is required
Industry related exposure is required
Previous interaction/liaison with marketing will be advantageous
An understanding of a sales environment is required with the ability to look for new business opportunities to grow the vendor technologies
Must have a technical understanding of the following technologies and the ability to engage in technical conversations: AWS, REDHAT, VEAAM, VMWare, CISCO, Python and Linux.
