Purpose of the Position & Core Competencies
To generate profitable new business and grow Stallion’s mining-sector client base by identifying opportunities, developing trusted client relationships, preparing commercially sound proposals and converting qualified prospects into sustainable security contracts.

Strategic Anchor of Role
The role supports Stallion’s Creating Confidence purpose by building a sustainable mining-sector sales pipeline, expanding market share and securing quality contracts that can be delivered safely, compliantly and profitably.

Overview
The Business Development Officer – Mining is responsible for new-business acquisition and revenue growth within the mining sector. The incumbent will research the market, identify target accounts, conduct structured outreach, arrange client meetings, understand operational and compliance requirements, coordinate bids and proposals, negotiate within approved parameters and maintain accurate CRM records through to conclusion.
Geographical Focus
Incumbent will be based at the Head office in Gauteng, with responsibility for mining clients and opportunities across South Africa and travel extensively to client sites, mining operations, industry events and tender briefings as required.
Level of Authority
Responsible for day-to-day prospecting, client engagement, opportunity qualification, CRM updates and preparation of proposals. May negotiate within approved pricing, commission, margin and contracting parameters. Escalates non-standard commercial terms, pricing exceptions, contractual risk and operational commitments for approval.
Internal Interfaces
Business Development Manager; Divisional Director; Operations; Bid/Tender team; Finance; SHEQ; Legal; HR; Marketing; Contract Management and Executive leadership.
External Interfaces
Mining houses; mine managers; procurement and supply-chain teams; security and risk managers; project houses; engineering and construction contractors; industry associations; consultants and other decision-makers.
Duties & Responsibilities
Key Performance Areas (KPAs)
- Build and maintain a qualified mining-sector target-account list and sales pipeline.
- Complete a minimum of 20 quality outbound calls per week, to various mining houses.
- Secure a minimum of 2 qualified client appointments per week, where market conditions and campaign allocation permit.
- Achieve an indicative conversion ratio of 1:10 from qualified opportunities to successful business, measured over an agreed reporting period.
- Identify and track tenders, contract renewals, competitor movements and emerging mining opportunities.
- Develop accurate needs analyses, bespoke solution proposals, presentations and tender submissions.
- Maintain and complete current CRM records, activity notes, next actions, probability, value and expected close dates.
- Meet agreed revenue, gross-margin, activity, appointment, pipeline and conversion targets.
- Coordinate effective handover of awarded contracts and maintain professional client relationships after the sale.
- Comply with Stallion policies, delegated authority, POPIA, anti-bribery requirements and all relevant mining, security and safety requirements.

- Proposals are accurate, commercially viable, operationally deliverable and submitted on time.

- CRM, forecasts and reports are reliable enough for management decisions.
Desired Experience & Qualification
Minimum Requirements: Experience
- At least 5 years’ business development or consultative sales experience in mining, guarding, integrated security, industrial services or a closely related B2B environment.
- Demonstrable experience selling to mining houses, mining contractors, industrial sites or large commercial clients.
- Experience managing a full sales cycle: prospecting, qualification, meetings, proposals/tenders, negotiation and close.
- Experience working with CRM systems, sales reporting and measurable activity targets.
- Experience preparing proposals and presentations for complex, multi-stakeholder opportunities.
- Existing mining-sector relationships and knowledge of mining procurement processes will be advantageous.
Minimum Requirements: Education
- Grade 12 / Matric required.
- A tertiary qualification in Business Management, Sales, Marketing, Risk Management, Security Management or a related field will be advantageous.
- A valid driver’s licence and willingness to travel are required.
- PSIRA knowledge or experience in the private-security industry will be advantageous.

- Working knowledge of procurement, tendering, confidentiality and commercial contracting principles.
- Awareness of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, Mine Health and Safety Act interface, site-access requirements and client-specific SHEQ obligations.
- Awareness of POPIA, anti-bribery requirements, conflict-of-interest rules and Stallion delegated-authority controls.
- Ability to recognise legal, compliance, operational and commercial risks and escalate them appropriately.
