We are seeking a technically astute and commercially driven Business Development Manager to join our team. This is a dynamic, client-facing role that bridges the gap between customer requirements and engineering capabilities, driving revenue growth across our target industries. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating at both a technical and commercial level, building lasting relationships while identifying and converting new business opportunities.
Please note: This role requires international travel. Duties & Responsibilities
- Generate and grow revenue through strategic sales initiatives and new business development
- Conduct technical market analysis to identify new applications, sectors, and solution opportunities
- Engage customers at a technical level to understand system requirements, constraints, and use cases
- Translate customer needs into feasible, well-engineered solutions aligned with internal engineering and manufacturing capabilities
- Assess solution feasibility, risks, lead times, and cost drivers in collaboration with engineering teams
- Develop technical proposals, solution descriptions, and supporting documentation
- Act as the primary technical interface between customers and internal development, quality, and production teams
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of products and system integration capabilities
- Manage and document customer engagements, opportunities, and solution history in a structured and consistent manner
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Relevant tertiary qualification in Engineering, Sales, or a related field
- Minimum 5 years' experience within the electronic and/or software industry, with exposure to the mining, rail, or crypto sectors
- Minimum 5 years' experience in business development and customer relationship management
- Demonstrated experience working within or servicing the defence, mining, crypto, and/or rail industries
Technical
• Solid understanding of electronic systems, embedded systems, or industrial technology • Ability to translate customer requirements into practical technical solutions • Understanding of system architecture, integration, and technical constraints • Ability to assess technical feasibility, risks, and trade-offs for proposed customer solutions • Confident engaging in technical discussions with engineers and technically informed clients • Basic commercial awareness, including an understanding of cost drivers, lead times, and the feasibility impact on pricing Systems & Tools:
• Solid proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, Outlook) • Experience with Jira and/or Confluence is advantageous Interpersonal & Commercial:
- Strong customer relationship management skills with a customer-centric mindset
- Ability to foster long-term, trust-based client relationships over short-term transactional engagements
- Clear, structured communicator — both verbally and in writing — particularly across technical subject matter
