Bookkeeper/ Accountant

Introduction

A well-established client in the Property sector is looking for a hands-on Bookkeeper / Accountant to join its finance team in Bellville.

This is a practical accounting role suited to someone who enjoys being involved in the detail and is comfortable taking responsibility for the full day-to-day accounting function , while also assisting with monthly reporting and project-related financial activities.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Capture and process financial transactions, invoices, receipts and payments

• Maintain accurate financial records and supporting documentation

• Manage creditors, purchase orders and supplier queries

• Prepare monthly creditor payment batches

• Perform bank and balance-sheet reconciliations

• Prepare and submit VAT returns

• Prepare monthly management accounts and supporting schedules

• Monitor and report on project expenditure

• Prepare audit schedules and provide supporting information to auditors

• Liaise with suppliers, operational/site teams and internal finance stakeholders

• Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete and maintained in line with internal procedures

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Diploma or degree in Accounting would be advantageous

• Minimum 5 years' practical bookkeeping/accounting experience

• Strong experience with bank reconciliations, VAT, management accounts and audit preparation

• Experience working across multiple entities and/or projects would be advantageous

• Strong computer literacy and accounting systems experience

• Sage experience would be advantageous

Candidates without a formal accounting qualification will also be considered if they have substantial practical experience and are able to independently manage the core accounting functions required for the role.

Experience within property development, construction, projects or a similar environment would be advantageous.
