Job Title: Bell Logger Operator (6 month contract) Start Date: 2026-08-18 - 2026-09-17 Vacancy Type: Contractor PE006796 Sectors: Manufacturing Location: Eastern Cape , Gqeberha / Port Elizabeth Salary: (Market related, Negotiable) Brief: bell logger|machine operator|manufacturing Our client based in Gqeberha is looking to appoint a Bell Logger Operator for a 6 month contract Skills bell logger machine operator manufacturing Detail: Priority 1: Loading & Offloading Operations Operate Bell loggers efficiently and safely to load and offload log trucks. Ensure correct stacking, sorting, and placement of logs to maintain yard organisation and prevent damage. Control and manage the continuous feed of logs to the chipper and splitter to support uninterrupted production. Monitor log flow to prevent blockages, downtime, or unsafe working conditions. Priority 2: Safety & Compliance Adhere strictly to all company safety policies, procedures, and legal requirements. Conduct and record daily pre-start equipment inspections. Immediately report any mechanical faults, hazards, near-misses, or incidents. Maintain a clean, orderly, and safe log yard environment. Actively contribute to promoting a strong safety culture within the team. Priority 3: Equipment Management & Quality Monitoring Monitor and record Bell logger operating hours and service history. Coordinate and report maintenance requirements to ensure timely servicing and minimal downtime. Inspect all incoming logs for quality, contamination, size compliance, and defects. Reject or report any sub-standard or contaminated loads in line with company procedures. Support production quality standards by ensuring only suitable material enters the process. Perform any reasonable ad hoc tasks as instructed by management, aligned to operational requirements and capabilities. Loading, Offloading, Splitting & Chipper Operations · Operate Bell loggers to ensure the safe and efficient movement of raw materials. · Load and offload logs correctly to prevent damage to products, equipment, and infrastructure. · Stack and organise logs systematically to maintain an orderly yard. · Feed the chipper and splitter correctly to prevent blockages, breakdowns, or damage. Housekeeping & Yard Maintenance · Maintain high standards of cleanliness and orderliness in the log yard. · Assist with general housekeeping duties to ensure a safe, productive, and compliant working environment. Safety, Health & Compliance · Adhere strictly to all company safety rules, procedures, and operational standards. · Conduct thorough daily pre-start inspections of all assigned equipment. · Immediately report incidents, near misses, equipment defects, and safety hazards. · Actively promote a strong safety culture and compliance among team members. Equipment Management · Complete pre-start checklists accurately and consistently. · Monitor and assist in tracking the service and maintenance history of Bell loggers. · Communicate equipment performance or mechanical issues promptly to the Log Yard Supervisor. Quality Monitoring · Perform visual inspections of incoming logs for contamination, defects, or non-conformance. · Report quality-related issues that may affect safety, processing efficiency, or final product quality. Teamwork, Training & Company Values · Work collaboratively with colleagues, supervisors, and external suppliers. · Participate in ongoing training and skills development initiatives. · Demonstrate professionalism, accountability, and integrity at all times. · Uphold and actively promote the company's core values and standards of conduct. Key Skills & Competencies · Operational Proficiency: Skilled in operating Bell loggers and log yard machinery. · Safety Awareness: Strong understanding of heavy equipment safety practices and compliance requirements. · Technical Awareness: Ability to identify, report, and explain mechanical or operational faults. · Attention to Detail: High level of accuracy in quality checks, stacking, and housekeeping. · Communication & Teamwork: Clear communication skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
