The Boys' College invites applications for the abovementioned position which will be available from January 2027
The requirements for this position are
- A relevant professional qualification
- Experience working in a school laboratory will be advantageous
- Genuine enthusiasm for the sciences and supporting practical learning
- Strong working knowledge of MS Word, Excel, Microsoft Office and Teams, and email
- Effective management, control, ordering and maintenance of chemical stocks
- Maintaining chemical registers, Safety Data Sheets and appropriate disposal procedures of used chemicals
- Proven experience working with chemicals, including the accurate preparation of solutions
- The ability to perform the necessary calculations required for the preparation of practical investigations
- Preparation, set-up and clearing of laboratory experiments and demonstrations required by department
- The initiative and creativity to contribute fresh ideas for practical demonstrations and enhanced learning experiences
- Inventory management, stock control and supplier liaison
- Responsibility for maintaining laboratory equipment and coordinating repairs where necessary
- Familiarity with the SAGs document IEB Physical Sciences syllabus
- A sound understanding of scientific terminology
- A strong commitment to laboratory safety, including occupational health and safety in laboratories and chemical storage
- Practical problem-solving skills, including the ability to carry out minor electrical repairs
- The ability to work both independently and collaboratively
- A proactive, reliable and detail-oriented work ethic
- A willingness to engage ongoing professional development
- An awareness of the nature of the school and willingness to commit to its all-round ethos, co-curricular activities and pastoral approach
- Any staff member working within a school is required to have a sexual offender's clearance certificate
