The role requires excellent product knowledge, outstanding customer service, and the ability to maintain a clean, organised, and fully stocked bar while ensuring responsible alcohol service and compliance with health and safety regulations. Key Responsibilities Beverage Preparation & Service Prepare and serve alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to guests according to standard recipes. Mix cocktails, pour wines, beers, spirits, and specialty beverages. Ensure consistency in drink quality, presentation, and portion control. Recommend beverages based on guest preferences and menu offerings. Verify the legal drinking age of guests where applicable. Provide prompt, friendly, and professional service at all times. Guest Experience Welcome guests and create a warm, engaging atmosphere. Build positive relationships with guests and encourage repeat business. Handle guest requests and complaints professionally and efficiently. Maintain a thorough knowledge of the food and beverage menu to make informed recommendations. Promote signature cocktails, premium beverages, and specials to maximise sales. Bar Operations Prepare the bar for service by ensuring adequate stock and cleanliness. Restock beverages, garnishes, glassware, and bar supplies throughout the shift. Monitor inventory levels and report shortages to management. Ensure all equipment is clean and in good working order. Assist with opening and closing procedures. Cash Handling & Administration Process cash, card, and account payments accurately using the POS system. Maintain accurate records of sales and transactions. Balance cash drawers and complete end-of-shift reconciliations. Assist with stock takes and inventory counts. Complete daily bar reports where required. Stock Control Monitor stock usage and minimise wastage. Ensure proper storage and rotation of beverages. Assist with ordering bar stock and supplies. Maintain accurate inventory records and report discrepancies. Health, Safety & Compliance Ensure compliance with liquor licensing regulations and responsible alcohol service. Maintain a clean, hygienic, and organised bar area. Follow food safety and hygiene standards. Adhere to company health and safety policies. Report any breakages, maintenance issues, or safety concerns. Teamwork Work closely with waiters, kitchen staff, and management to ensure smooth service. Support colleagues during busy periods. Assist with functions, events, and banqueting services when required. Participate in staff training and ongoing development initiatives. Detail: Minimum Requirements Grade 12 (Matric). Certificate in Bartending, Hospitality, or Food & Beverage (preferred). Minimum 2–3 years' experience as a Bartender in a hotel, lodge, resort, restaurant, or cocktail bar. Experience in a luxury hospitality environment is advantageous. Qualifications Bartending or Mixology certification (preferred). Responsible Alcohol Service training (advantageous). Food Safety/HACCP certification (advantageous). Technical Skills Strong knowledge of cocktails, wines, beers, spirits, and non-alcoholic beverages. Ability to prepare classic and contemporary cocktails. Experience using POS systems and handling cash transactions. Knowledge of wine service, beverage pairing, and premium spirits.
