Back End Developer (Senior) (Java + Python + JavaScript/TypeScript/Node.js + Kubernetes and Serverless + Unit Testing + Integration Testing + End-to-End testing)

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing, developing, deploying and operating production-ready backend applications within a distributed, highly scalable technology landscape.

Key Responsibilities

• Design, develop, deploy and operate production-ready backend applications.

• Develop scalable and resilient distributed systems and cloud-native applications.

• Design and implement RESTful APIs and backend services.

• Work with microservices and containerised architectures.

• Develop and maintain cloud-based solutions, with a strong focus on AWS.

• Implement automated deployment and configuration processes.

• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines.

• Apply secure software development practices and cloud-security patterns.

• Monitor applications and contribute to observability, logging and operational excellence.

• Participate in 24/7 production support and incident resolution when required.

• Identify technical risks, impediments and dependencies and proactively address or escalate them.

• Apply software architecture and design patterns to complex technical challenges.

• Implement comprehensive automated testing, including unit, integration and end-to-end testing.

• Produce technical and system documentation in accordance with required standards.

• Collaborate with customers, internal teams and external technology partners.

• Contribute to Agile and Scrum ceremonies and delivery activities.

• Share technical knowledge and mentor junior and intermediate team members.

• Continuously improve existing products, systems and technical processes.

Essential Skills

• 10+ years of production experience in backend software development.

• Strong experience with one or more of the following:

• Java – preferred

• Python

• JavaScript / TypeScript / Node.js

• Strong knowledge of Microservices Architecture.

• Experience with cloud-native solutions and container architectures.

• Proven experience designing, developing and operating distributed systems.

• Strong experience with AWS cloud technologies, preferably including:

• Kubernetes

• Serverless

• API Gateway

• CloudWatch

• ECS

• Lambda

• OpenSearch

• RDS

• S3

• Experience with Infrastructure as Code, preferably Terraform.

• Strong experience with both SQL and NoSQL databases.

• Experience developing and managing CI/CD pipelines, preferably using GitHub Actions.

• Experience with automated deployment and system configuration.

• Experience with monitoring, observability and log analytics.

• Strong experience designing and implementing RESTful APIs.

• Strong Git experience.

• Knowledge of software design and architecture patterns.

• Understanding of secure software development practices.

• Strong automated testing experience, including:

• Unit Testing

• Integration Testing

• End-to-End Testing

• Experience working within Agile and Scrum environments.

Qualifications
