We are looking for a motivated and technically capable Intermediate Azure Cloud Engineer to join our cloud and infrastructure team on a 6-month renewable contract.
Based in Cape Town and operating on a hybrid model, you will play a key role in designing, deploying, migrating and maintaining cloud-based solutions on Microsoft Azure.
You will collaborate closely with senior engineers and solution architects to deliver robust, secure, and cost-efficient cloud environments. This is an excellent opportunity for a cloud professional looking to deepen their Azure expertise in a fast-paced, delivery-focused environment.
Duties & Responsibilities
Cloud Infrastructure & Deployment
- Design, provision, and manage Azure resources including Virtual Machines, App Services, Data Platforms (ADF, ADLS, Databricks, etc.), Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), and Azure Functions, etc.
- Implement and maintain Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform and/or ARM/Bicep templates
- Configure and manage Azure Virtual Networks, NSGs, VPNs, and Load Balancers
- Set up and optimise Azure Storage accounts, Blob Storage, Azure SQL, and Cosmos DB
Security & Compliance
- Implement identity and access management using Azure Active Directory (Entra ID), RBAC, and Privileged Identity Management (PIM), Managed Identity
- Configure Azure Security Centre, Defender for Cloud, and Azure Policy to enforce governance and compliance
- Manage secrets, certificates, and keys using Azure Key Vault
- Ensure environments adhere to security best practices, POPIA compliance, and organisational standards
DevOps & Automation
- Build and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Azure DevOps (Pipelines, Repos, Boards)
- Automate operational tasks using PowerShell, Azure CLI, and Python scripting
- Integrate monitoring and alerting using Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, and Application Insights
Operations & Support
- Monitor cloud infrastructure health, respond to incidents, and perform root cause analysis
- Manage cost optimisation strategies including Reserved Instances, auto-scaling, and right-sizing
- Document infrastructure, processes, and runbooks to ensure operational continuity
- Collaborate with development teams to support cloud-native application deployments
Desired Experience & Qualification
Requirements
Essential
- 3–5 years of hands-on experience in a cloud engineering role
- Solid working knowledge of Microsoft Azure services and architecture
- Experience with IaC tools — Terraform preferred; ARM/Bicep advantageous
- Proficiency with Azure Networking concepts (VNet, NSG, Firewall, DNS, Load Balancer)
- Strong scripting skills in PowerShell, Bash, and/or Python
- Experience with Azure DevOps for CI/CD pipeline development and source control
- Understanding of containerisation with Docker and orchestration with Kubernetes/AKS
- Working knowledge of Azure Active Directory / Entra ID and RBAC
- Ability to troubleshoot infrastructure issues independently and under pressure
Advantageous
- Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate + Azure Solutions Architect
- Experience with Azure DevOps or GitHub Actions for pipeline automation
- Exposure to agile/scrum delivery methodologies
- Experience in financial services, retail, FMCG or enterprise environments

Package & Remuneration
This is a contract position structured as follows
Fixed Monthly Rate: R35,000 – R50,000 CTC (market related based on experience)
- 6-month fixed-term contract (renewable based on performance)
- Hybrid working arrangement — office presence required 3 days per week in Cape Town
