- Evidence of relevant research activity
- Proven experience in supervision of MSc or PhD students
- Proven experience in service applicable in the university context
Associate Professor
- An appropriate PhD in Mathematics or equivalent
- Teaching experience at tertiary level, proven record of excellence in teaching and commitment to pursuing innovative teaching strategies including successful curriculum development
- A proven track record of sustaining high-quality research output in peer-reviewed journals
- Proven experience in successful supervision of MSc or PhD students
- Proven experience in service applicable in the university context
- Evidence of leadership within a university department, academic society, or professional body.
Duties
- The successful candidate will be expected to participate in teaching all aspects of the discipline at undergraduate level, maintain an active research & postgraduate supervision profile and participate in the administration of the School, Faculty and University. Additionally, at the Associate Professor level, the successful candidate will assume School-level administrative portfolios, participate in Faculty and University committees, and mentor junior academic staff. Additionally, they will be expected to actively secure national and international research funding from bodies such as the NRF and global entities.
- The successful candidate will also have the exciting opportunity to contribute to the newly established Wits Academy for Mathematical Pedagogy, Learning and Innovation for First-Year AMPLIFY. This pioneering unit is central to the faculty's commitment to transforming learning and teaching in large first year courses in Mathematics and Applied Mathematics and enhancing foundational student support.
