KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Teaching and Learning

• Presenting undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules. Development of new modules and programmes.

Research

• Conducting academic research publishing of research papers, etc. and supervision of postgraduate PhD and Master's students.

Administration/Management

• Help with administrative, organisational and management tasks within the subject group.

Minimum requirements

• A PhD in Mathematical Statistics NQF level 10.
• A minimum of five 5 years' experience with a proven publication track record, including a solid record of academic publications in accredited journals.
• A minimum of five 5 years' experience in teaching undergraduate and postgraduate courses, including lecturing modules for which the candidate has sole responsibility.
• A minimum of five 5 years' experience in the administration of large class groups, including taking a leading role in coordinating and managing the administrative duties associated with large class groups.
• A minimum of five 5 years' experience in supervising students at PhD and Master's level, with a proven track record of successfully supervising such students to completion.

ADDED ADVANTAGE

• Membership of the South African Statistical Association SASA.

KEY FUNCTIONAL/ TECHNICAL COMPETENCIES

The candidate must be able to

• Analyse data using advanced statistical techniques by means of suitable statistical computer packages such as SAS, R, SPSSSPSS, and STATISTICA.
• Provide guidance with regards to data collection.
• Present both undergraduate and postgraduate statistics modules.
• Act as group coordinator for modules with multiple groups.
• Handle large undergraduate classes.
• Supervise honours students.
• Communicate well in English verbally and in writing.

• Professional and ethical behaviour.
• Be able to act as a mentor for junior staff.
