Assistant Metallurgical Plant

Qualifying Criteria

• Grade 10, 11 or 12 / National Senior Certificate or equivalent.
• Relevant plant/process operation training or qualification will be advantageous.
• Previous experience within a metallurgical, mineral processing, processing plant or mining environment will be advantageous.
• Basic understanding of plant equipment and operating procedures will be advantageous.
• Ability to communicate effectively in a working environment.
• Ability to understand and follow instructions and standard operating procedures.
• Physically capable of performing duties within an industrial plant environment.
• Must possess good verbal communication skills
• South African Citizenship
• Clear Criminal Record

Responsibilities

• Assisting Plant Operators with the operation and monitoring of metallurgical plant equipment.
• Conducting routine inspections of plant equipment and reporting defects, leaks, unusual noises, vibrations or other abnormalities.
• Assisting with plant start-up and shutdown activities under the instruction of the Plant Operator or Supervisor.
• Monitoring pumps, pipelines, valves, conveyors, screens, tanks, sumps and other relevant plant equipment.
• Assisting with opening and closing valves and controlling material or slurry flow as instructed.
• Checking and monitoring tank and sump levels and reporting abnormal conditions.
• Assisting with clearing minor spillages and blockages where safe and authorised to do so.
• Supporting operators during plant breakdowns and maintenance activities.
• Communicating equipment and process abnormalities promptly to the Plant Operator or Supervisor.
• Assisting with sampling activities where required.
• Performing basic operational checks in accordance with standard operating procedures.
• Ensuring that walkways, work areas and access points remain clean and free from unnecessary obstructions.
• Maintaining high housekeeping standards throughout the plant.
• Assisting with the safe handling and storage of operational materials and equipment.
• Participating in pre-shift meetings, toolbox talks and safety discussions.
• Identifying and reporting hazards, unsafe acts and unsafe conditions.
• Correctly using and maintaining prescribed Personal Protective Equipment PPE.
• Complying with all lawful instructions, operational procedures and company standards.
• Performing any other reasonable plant-related duties as instructed by the Supervisor.
• Manage and maintain in area of responsibility in accordance with mine standards, procedures and practices
• Adhere to MHSA standards & Gold1's safety motto : "Nothing is so important that it cannot be done safely"
