Requirements

  • Grade 12 or matric certificate. A relevant bachelor's degree / Diploma in Security Management. At least 3 years relevant experience at supervisory level in security management.
  • Understanding of the relevant legislation and policy framework: Public Finance Management Act and Treasury Regulations. Knowledge of Minimum Physical Security Standards MPSS, Minimum Information Security Standards MISS, Control of Access to Public Premises Act, Mental Health Care Act, PSIRA Act, Criminal Procedure Act, Protection of Personal Information Act POPIA, and all other related prescripts. Competency in investigating security breaches and actioning security awareness programmes.
  • Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety Act OHSA, Labour Relations Act and Code of Conduct. Must possess professional work ethics, with good communication skills verbal and written, interpersonal skills, Computer skills MS Office, report writing and presentation skills. Knowledge and understanding of Performance Management Development System PMDS. Valid PSIRA Grade A registration certificate will be an added advantage.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, Crisis negotiation, de-escalation skills tailored to patients with mental health conditions and ability to function independently and under pressure. Must have a valid driver's licence.

Duties

  • Liaise and communicate regularly with the contracted security service provider to ensure compliance with contractual obligations and departmental standards. Manage security guarding services of the hospital's inhouse security personnel. Liaise with the South African Police Service and Security Management Directorate at Gauteng Department of Health GDoH Central Office where indicated.
  • Conduct security risk assessments and coordinate appropriate interventions to mitigate identified risks. Provide strategic advice to executive management on security-related matters. Implement the security policies and all related prescripts appropriately. Assess and improve the effectiveness of security control systems. Investigate security incidents/breaches, compile reports and ensure implementation of corrective and preventative measures.
  • Recommend interventions, improvements, and disciplinary measures where appropriate. Maintain records of security breaches and other incidents. Develop, support, monitor, and assess the performance agreements of the hospital security personnel. Manage all personnel with adherence to Basic Conditions of Employment Act.
