Requirements

  • Senior Certificate / Grade 12 plus appropriate qualification in Environmental Health / Public Health as recognized by SAQA that allows for the required registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa HPCSA as an Environmental Health Practitioner. A minimum of three 3 years appropriate experience in the relevant profession after registration with the Health Professional Council of South Africa HPCSA as independent practice where applicable of which five 5 years must be appropriate experience in management. Must have an experience in managing Health Care Risk Waste in the health facilities and Public Old Age Homes would be an added advantage. At least 5 years' experience as an environmental health and independent practitioner.
  • Extensive knowledge on Health Care Risk Waste management and other hazardous substance and related activities. Good leadership qualities, with a clear demonstration of monitoring and evaluation of the programme. Good leadership qualities, with a clear demonstration of management abilities. The ability to coordinate multi-disciplinary and sectoral activities. Good communication skills. Computer literacy. A valid driver's license .Must be registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa HPCSA as an independent environmental health practitioner.Strategic capability and leadership. Programme and project management skills. Must have computer skills MS Office package and Power Point Presentation Financial management skills. Change and knowledge management skills. Problem-solving and analysis skills. People management and empowerment. Contract management skills. Able to work independent, under pressure, willing to work overtime and travel extensively. Understanding legislative frameworks and related policies in the health public sector and other prescripts.

Duties

  • Develop, implement, monitor and evaluate policy guidelines for management. Monitor and evaluate Health Care Risk Waste contract management. Develop turnaround strategy to improve Health Care Risk Waste management in the province. Develop and revise Health Care Risk Waste and Environmental Health related policies, legislation, strategies and relevant norms and standards. Able to manage and pprovide accurate information to the Supervisor and other stakeholders for evidence –based decision- making and programme planning and evaluation.
  • Able to analyse Health Care Risk Waste finance and data for decision making. Able to manage hazardous substances. Capacity building of health care workers to manage Health Care Risk Waste in the facilities. Able to conduct research to inform policies. Provide technical support to facilities and other stakeholders. Represent the department on Health Care Risk Waste management forums. Develop strategic and operational plan for the programme. Develop quality improvement plan. Able to monitor Health Care Risk Waste management in the facilities.
