Requirements

  • Grade 12 Matric. An appropriate three-year National Diploma or Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communication Management, Communication Science, Journalism, Media Studies or an equivalent SAQA-recognised qualification. A minimum of three 3 years' relevant experience in communications, public relations, media liaison and stakeholder management. Valid driver's licence.
  • Sound knowledge of government communication systems, public sector communication protocols and applicable legislative frameworks. Knowledge of communication strategy development, stakeholder management, media relations, event management, social media management and corporate branding.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Strong report-writing, editing and presentation skills. Computer literacy in Microsoft Office Suite and digital communication platforms. Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines. Photography, videography and graphic design experience will be an added advantage.
  • Competencies: Strategic communication planning and implementation. Media liaison and crisis communication. Stakeholder engagement and relationship management. Project and event management. Content development, editing and publication management. Social media management and analytics.
  • Corporate branding and reputation management. Research, monitoring and evaluation. Problem-solving and decision-making skills. Financial and resource management. Excellent interpersonal and networking skills.

Duties

  • Develop, implement and monitor strategic internal and external communication programmes, policies, plans and communication governance frameworks aligned to departmental objectives. Coordinate and manage media relations, including media enquiries, media monitoring, media statements, press releases and reputation management initiatives.
  • Develop, write, edit and publish communication products, including newsletters, articles, speeches, health awareness content, brochures, posters and other corporate publications. Manage and maintain the hospital's digital communication platforms and social media accounts, including content development, campaign implementation, monitoring and performance reporting.
  • Coordinate and provide communication support for institutional events, outreach programmes, stakeholder engagements and public awareness campaigns, including branding, protocol and post-event reporting. Establish and maintain strategic relationships with internal and external stakeholders, community structures, partners, donors and relevant organisations to support institutional objectives. Facilitate partnerships, sponsorships, donations and other stakeholder engagement initiatives in accordance with departmental policies and procedures.
  • Conduct communication audits, monitor communication effectiveness and compile reports to support continuous improvement of communication and public relations services.
  • Provide communication and public relations support to executive management, governance structures, committees and special projects of the institution. Ensure compliance with government communication prescripts, corporate identity standards and applicable legislative frameworks governing public sector communication.
