MINIMUM - COMPETENCIES

  • Ability to read and write. Good communication skills. Basic knowledge of maintenance within the built environment and the ability to carry out routine manual tasks.
  • Basic maintenance skills. Ability to work safely with hand tools and electrical equipmen. Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Physical fitness to perform routine manual duties. Good time-management skills. Reliability, dependability and attention to detail. Ability to follow instructions. Commitment to occupational health and workplace safety.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Grade 10/ABET or a related qualification recognised by SAQA. At least six 6 months' trade-related experience.

DUTIES

  • Assist with routine workshop, maintenance and built environment activities under appropriate supervision. Prepare work areas, materials, tools and equipment for maintenance activities.
  • Load, unload and transport workshop materials, tools, equipment and departmental assets as required. Care for, clean and store tools and equipment, and report damaged or defective items.
  • Maintain clean, safe and orderly workshops, plant rooms and work areas in compliance with occupational health and safety requirements.
  • Handle tools, materials and equipment responsibly to prevent loss, damage or misuse. Perform other reasonable duties related to the post as instructed by the supervisor.
