AREA MANAGER - FMCG / RETAIL

Introduction

Our client, a leading manufacturer and supplier within the FMCG and retail sector , is seeking an experienced Area Manager to oversee the operational and commercial performance of multiple retail stores.

This is a multi-store management position requiring a proven Area Manager who has experience within the FMCG environment and is comfortable managing geographically dispersed operations.

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing 8 stores across Cape Town and Durban , driving sales growth, ensuring operational standards, managing stock and merchandising requirements, and providing leadership and support to store management teams.

Duties & Responsibilities

• Relevant tertiary qualification.

• Minimum 5 years' solid FMCG/retail experience.

• Proven experience working as an Area Manager or equivalent multi-site management position.

• Experience managing multiple retail stores/outlets .

• Experience managing, coaching and supporting Store Managers.

• Strong sales and target management experience.

• Experience with stock management, ordering and merchandising.

• Valid driver's licence.

• Excellent computer skills.

• Strong communication and negotiation skills.

• Professional and presentable.

• Strong leadership and problem-solving abilities.

• Willingness to travel extensively between stores, including travel to Cape Town and Durban.

Desired Experience & Qualification

• Manage and oversee the operational performance of allocated retail stores.

• Monitor monthly sales, growth and performance against company targets.

• Analyse store performance and implement appropriate corrective actions where required.

• Lead, support and develop Store Managers to achieve operational and sales objectives.

• Implement strategic initiatives as directed by the Retail Head.

• Ensure planned products are ordered, received and displayed correctly across all stores.

• Manage the ordering and execution of seasonal and everyday stock .

• Monitor stock levels and ensure effective stock control.

• Ensure compliance with merchandising and store presentation standards.

• Monitor and maintain Cardies fixtures and ensure they are properly utilised and maintained.

• Implement and maintain store disciplines in accordance with company policies.

• Ensure all company procedures and operational standards are consistently followed.

• Address customer complaints and operational challenges and ensure effective resolution.

• Identify operational concerns and communicate these to the Retail Head.

• Monitor and maintain health and safety standards across all stores.

• Oversee store maintenance and ensure operational issues are addressed timeously.

• Assist with annual stock takes and other stock-related activities when required.

• Ensure all company correspondence and instructions are communicated and implemented effectively.

• Conduct regular store visits and provide ongoing operational support to store teams.

• Drive continuous improvement in sales, customer service and store performance.
