Introduction

An opportunity has become available for Apron Manager , to ensure safe, efficient, and compliant management of all apron and ramp operations, including ramp surfaces, staff coordination, ground support equipment (GSE), adherence to SACAA regulations, baggage handling systems, and the loading/offloading of aircraft. The role supports operational excellence and timely aircraft turnaround. The successful incumbent will report to the Executive: Commercial and Bunsiness Development and will be based at Lanseria International Airport.

Duties & Responsibilities

1. Apron Operations & Compliance

  • Ensure all apron activities comply with SACAA, airport procedures, and aviation safety standards.
  • Conduct routine apron inspections and enforce safety protocols.
  • Ensure accurate reporting and follow-up of incidents, accidents, and safety deviations.
  • Manage audits (internal and external) as applicable to Apron procedures and ensure compliance

2. Ground Service Equipment (GSE) & Infrastructure Management

  • Oversee the maintenance, serviceability, and readiness of all apron equipment.
  • Ensure equipment is operated correctly, stored properly, and meets required operational regulations.
  • Manage equipment availability to support peak and irregular operations.

3. Aircraft Turnaround Coordination

  • Support airlines in meeting turnaround targets by ensuring timely and coordinated ramp activities.
  • Monitor aircraft parking stand usage and adjust plans for efficiency.
  • Resolve operational constraints that may impact on-time performance.

4. Stand Allocation & Apron Planning

  • Manage and update the aircraft parking plan in alignment with daily flight schedules.
  • Coordinate with ATC on stand management, movement restrictions, and operational changes.
  • Ensure efficient apron flow and reduced congestion.

5. Baggage Handling Oversight

  • Oversee the functionality and performance of the baggage handling system.
  • Monitor baggage loading and offloading processes for accuracy, safety, and speed.
  • Ensure effective coordination with Porters and Baggage Handling contractors.

6. Staff Management & Development

  • Lead, supervise, and develop apron teams to ensure operational capability.
  • Manage scheduling, performance management, discipline, and training needs.
  • Ensure adequate staffing levels for all shifts.

7. Reporting & Administration

  • Compile operational reports, incident records, and equipment logs.
  • Maintain documentation for audits and operational reviews.
  • Provide accurate data to management for decision-making.

Desired Experience & Qualification

  • Grade 12 (Matric).
  • Degree in Operations, Management, Business Administration, or related field.
  • 5–8 years’ aviation operations experience (minimum of 5 years airport experience).
  • Minimum 3 years’ supervisory or management experience.
  • Valid Code 8 Driver’s License.
  • Airside Induction.
  • Radio License.
  • Dangerous Goods Certification.
  • Competence in apron equipment operation.
