Application Engineer - BESS & Hybrid Power Solutions

Our client is seeking an Application Engineer with strong renewable energy engineering knowledge and a commercial mindset to support the growth of utility-scale battery energy storage and hybrid power solutions. This position offers broad technical involvement, from system modelling and design evaluation to tender preparation, grid compliance and customer engagement.

Key Duties

• Act as a technical specialist for solar PV, BESS and hybrid power solutions.

• Review customer and utility requirements and provide appropriate system design recommendations.

• Conduct system sizing, modelling and performance analysis for hybrid PV/BESS applications.

• Support the integration of battery storage into existing PV installations, assessing risks and proposing suitable technical solutions.

• Prepare technical specifications, engineering offers, tender documents and project proposals.

• Assist the sales team with quotations, customer discussions and technically appropriate solution selection.

• Develop technical sales resources and product value propositions.

• Evaluate competitor products, identify performance gaps and communicate technical differentiators.

• Support local engineering services and ensure proposed solutions meet regional requirements and relevant product specifications.

• Work with project development teams on new and existing project opportunities.

• Engage with grid operators, regulators, utilities and municipalities on grid connection matters and code compliance.

• Contribute to industry working groups and maintain awareness of regulatory and technology developments.

• Participate in customer calls, sales meetings, project discussions and site visits.

• Maintain clear technical records and support project tracking and reporting.

Qualifications and Experience

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Renewable Energy, Energy Systems or a related field.

• At least 3–5 years of experience in utility-scale solar PV or BESS engineering, design or project support.

• Experience designing, sizing and modelling hybrid PV/BESS systems.

• Knowledge of SMA inverters, Sunny Island X solutions and third-party battery technologies.

• Experience with PVsyst, MATLAB, HOMER or comparable engineering modelling tools.

• Understanding of grid codes, regulatory requirements and utility-scale grid integration.

• Strong technical writing and tender preparation skills.

• Excellent analytical, communication and stakeholder engagement abilities.

• Familiarity with CRM platforms such as Salesforce is advantageous.

Preferred

• Postgraduate studies in an applicable technical discipline.

• Experience in renewable energy business development support or technical solution positioning.

• Involvement in utility-scale project development, including greenfield or brownfield projects.
