Introduction
Our client is seeking a dedicated and registered Animal Health Technician to support all animal‑health‑related responsibilities on a farm located in Delmas . The successful candidate will work closely with farm management and veterinarians to ensure optimal animal health, compliance with SAVC standards, and the effective implementation of animal‑health programmes.
This role requires someone who is comfortable working in the meat industry , including farm and abattoir environments, and who can communicate fluently in Afrikaans and English .
Duties & Responsibilities
- Animal Health Monitoring — Monitor general health and wellbeing of livestock
- Health Inspections — Conduct regular inspections and identify signs of illness, injury or disease
- Disease Prevention — Assist with prevention, treatment and control of animal diseases
- Vaccinations & Treatments — Administer vaccinations, medication and treatments within scope of practice
- Health Programmes — Support vaccination, parasite control and other health programmes
- Reporting — Report abnormalities or health concerns to management and veterinarians
- Record Keeping — Maintain accurate animal health and treatment records
- Animal Handling — Assist with examinations and routine health procedures
- Biosecurity — Maintain farm biosecurity and hygiene standards
- Livestock Monitoring — Monitor livestock condition and wellbeing
- Compliance — Ensure duties comply with legislation, industry standards and SAVC requirements
- Stock Control — Maintain stock levels and records of veterinary medicines and health products
- Emergency Support — Assist with emergency animal‑health situations
- Ad Hoc Duties — Perform general and administrative animal‑health duties as required
Desired Experience & Qualification
- Current registration with the South African Veterinary Council (SAVC)
- Proof of current SAVC registration (mandatory)
- Fluent in Afrikaans and English
- Willing to work within the meat industry , including farm and abattoir environments
- Strong understanding of animal health, welfare and biosecurity
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Strong communication and reporting skills
- Reliable, responsible and detail‑oriented
