  • The above-mentioned position is available in the Human Resources Department at Robben Island Museum. The purpose of this position is to manage the daily activities and performance of Emergency Medical Services EMS crews, vehicles, and equipment. EMS Supervisors serves as primary liaisons for clinical oversight, prospective, concurrent, and retrospective quality improvement, education, operational coordination, and issue resolution within the prehospital emergency medical services system.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee daily ambulance operations, ensuring efficient deployment of resources and crews, including staff scheduling.
  • Ensure compliance with medical protocols
  • Supervise, guide, and evaluate ambulance crew members, including paramedics and emergency medical technicians EMTs.
  • Monitor and improve patient care, safety, and service quality.
  • Maintain equipment readiness
  • Investigate service complaints, incident delays and compile a report with recommendations for service improvement
  • Serve as incident commanders or scene managers during major incidents or disasters.
  • Coordinate with police, fire brigades and related stakeholders for incident management
  • Liaise with hospitals, emergency services, and other stakeholders to ensure effective coordination and response.
  • Identify training needs and provide coaching, mentoring, and educational opportunities for crew members.
  • Ensure adherence to regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Identify potential risks and mitigation strategies
  • Oversee maintenance, repair, and replacement of ambulances and medical equipment.
  • Manage budgets, resources, and personnel to optimize service delivery.
  • Participate in community outreach, education, and public relations activities to promote the ambulance service.

Minimum requirements

  • Valid Immediate Life Support ILS Certification or any equivalent Qualification.
  • National Diploma of Health Science in Emergency Medical Care will be an added Advantage.
  • Valid CPD Compliance Letter
  • Valid Registration with Health Professions Council of South Africa,
  • Emergency Vehicle Operator EVO Licence
  • Valid Driver's License code C1 with valid PDP and at least three 3 years of driving experience

Work Experience

  • Five 5 years' experience as an Emergency Medical Technician EMT providing Intermediate life support ILS, of which three 3 Years must have been in supervisory level

  • Ability to work under pressure and make critical decisions in high stress situations.
  • Knowledge of Ambulance Norms and Standard, EMS regulations, policies, and procedures
  • Knowledge of Batho Pele Principles will be advantageous
  • Ability to evaluate or analyse information and to select an alternative that best meets the need of the organisation.
  • Ability to identify issues and to grasp complexities that tend to be overlooked by others.
  • Ability to exchange information and ideas, verbally or in writing, in a clear, concise manner to explain, persuade and influence others.
