Air-Conditioning Service Technician – Johannesburg
Location: Opportunities in Johannesburg
Salary: R600,000 CTC per annum, negotiable depending on experience and qualifications
Introduction
Our client is seeking qualified and experienced Air-Conditioning Service Technicians to join their service team in Johannesburg
The successful candidates will be responsible for servicing, maintaining, repairing and commissioning air-conditioning equipment, including VRV/VRF and chiller systems. The role requires strong technical fault-finding abilities, professional customer service and the ability to manage service activities effectively.
Hands-on air-conditioning experience is essential. Candidates whose experience is limited to refrigeration, cold rooms, freezers or commercial/industrial refrigeration will not be considered.
Duties & Responsibilities
Carry out planned servicing, preventative maintenance and breakdown repairs on air-conditioning systems.
Diagnose technical faults and perform repairs to restore equipment to safe and efficient operation.
Execute commissioning requirements for VRV and chiller systems.
Conduct site inspections to assess equipment condition, identify service requirements and cost jobs.
Complete chargeable service work and warranty labour efficiently.
Provide technical support to customers, including 24-hour telephonic assistance when required.
Assist after-sales engineers with technical service requirements.
Prepare comprehensive written reports detailing findings, photographic evidence and recommended corrective action.
Complete job cards accurately and submit updates to service coordinators daily or weekly as required.
Coordinate with service coordinators and spare parts controllers to support effective service delivery.
Identify maintenance contract opportunities at sites without existing maintenance arrangements.
Recommend system improvements and identify additional service opportunities at contracted sites.
Maintain safe working conditions and comply with applicable health and safety requirements.
Keep product and technical knowledge current through training.
Travel locally or internationally and work overtime when required.
Desired Experience & Qualifications
Qualifications
Grade 12 or an N3 HVAC Diploma from a technical college.
National Trade Certificate in HVAC&R.
Safe Handling of Refrigerants Certification – SAQCC Category B.
Safety training certification.
First Aid Level 1 certification.
Technical Experience
A minimum of 5–7 years’ relevant service and maintenance experience in air conditioning/HVAC.
At least 5 years’ fault-finding experience.
At least 3 years’ commissioning experience.
At least 3 years’ installation experience.
Hands-on experience with VRV/VRF and chiller systems.
Ability to assess equipment performance, diagnose faults and recommend appropriate solutions.
Ability to calculate heat loads and understand general HVAC requirements.
Computer literacy, including MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and email.
