We are looking for an experienced Infrastructure Engineer to join our Infrastructure Engineering team.

In this role, you will be responsible for the design, development, security, automation and operation of Linux platforms across office and production environments. You will help ensure that Linux environments remain secure, stable, compliant, highly available and aligned with business and operational requirements.

This is an advanced level position suited to an engineer who can work largely autonomously, solve complex technical problems and provide guidance to less experienced team members.

What You Will Be Responsible For

  • Design, develop and maintain Linux client platforms across office and production environments.
  • Define, implement and continuously improve Linux functionality based on business and operational requirements.
  • Develop and maintain Linux base images, software packages and configuration standards.
  • Ensure Linux platforms comply with security, hardening and regulatory requirements.
  • Perform vulnerability assessments and implement appropriate remediation measures.
  • Install, configure, administer and support Linux environments across physical, virtual and cloud infrastructure.
  • Support Linux environments running in cloud platforms such as AWS.
  • Monitor system performance and troubleshoot complex infrastructure issues.
  • Ensure high availability, reliability and operational stability across critical environments.
  • Automate deployment, configuration and operational processes to improve efficiency and reliability.
  • Manage system updates, patches and Linux platform lifecycle activities.
  • Support Incident, Problem and Change Management processes for dedicated IT services.
  • Maintain accurate technical documentation, knowledge articles, CMDB records and operational procedures.
  • Ensure adherence to operational standards, security policies and compliance requirements.
  • Track and manage Jira user stories and operational tasks within an Agile working environment.
  • Collaborate closely with infrastructure, cloud, security and application teams.
  • Facilitate operational meetings and contribute to continuous service improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in on call support and weekend maintenance activities when required.

RequirementsEssential Skills and Experience

  • Strong experience with Unix and Linux operating systems, particularly Ubuntu, Red Hat and SUSE.
  • Deep experience with Ansible Automation and Ansible Tower.
  • Strong shell scripting experience using Bash, Perl and Python.
  • Deep experience with GitHub and GitOps repositories.
  • Strong understanding of secure coding practices and Configuration as Code.
  • Experience with system monitoring solutions such as Grafana or similar technologies.
  • Experience with backup solutions.
  • Solid understanding of networking concepts including DNS, DHCP, SSH and TCP IP.
  • Experience with proxy configuration.
  • Strong experience with Linux administration, automation and configuration management.
  • Experience with cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
  • Strong knowledge of GitHub and version control practices.
  • A minimum of 5 years IT Operations experience.
  • A minimum of 5 years experience in configuration management and automation.

Advantageous Skills

  • Linux certifications such as RHCSA.
  • Ansible certifications such as RHCE, EX294 or EX407.
  • IT certifications such as RHCA, SUSE or Veritas Infoscale.
  • Experience with high availability technologies such as Veritas Infoscale.
  • Experience with Rudder or similar configuration management technologies.
  • Knowledge of Agile working methodologies.
  • Experience with virtualisation technologies such as VMware.
  • Knowledge of private cloud solutions.
  • Experience with Windows Server.
  • Experience with Dynatrace or Grafana.
  • Experience with Splunk.
  • Experience with containerisation technologies such as Podman, Docker, Kubernetes or OpenShift.
  • Basic knowledge of ITIL principles.
  • Knowledge of Incident, Problem and Change Management processes.
  • Experience with ServiceNow and related IT service management processes.
  • Experience with Red Hat Satellite.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Information Systems or a related qualification, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in IT Operations.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in configuration management and automation.
  • Strong Linux administration and engineering experience.
  • Strong coding and scripting capabilities, particularly Bash, Python or PowerShell.
  • Experience working with cloud technologies such as AWS and Azure.
  • Experience using version control systems such as GitHub.
