Introduction

A leading ST insurance company in Cape Town is urgently searching for a Pricing Actuary to join their team. The successful candidate will be highly skilled and motivated with specialized experience in both Commercial and Personal Lines of Short-Term Insurance to join our dynamic team. In this pivotal role, you will be instrumental in developing and implementing pricing strategies that ensure both profitability and competitiveness in the dynamic short-term insurance market. This position demands a profound understanding of actuarial principles, statistical Modeling, and a robust business acumen, particularly in the realms of Commercial and Personal Lines insurance.

Duties & Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

Rate Development

Develop and maintain sophisticated pricing models for diverse short-term insurance products, taking into account market trends, regulatory requirements, and company objectives.

Analyze historical data and industry benchmarks to assess risk, ensuring the formulation of appropriate pricing structures for both Commercial and Personal Lines.

Risk Assessment

Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to evaluate potential losses and uncertainties associated with different insurance products in both Commercial and Personal Lines.

Collaborate closely with underwriters and other stakeholders to gather pertinent information for thorough risk evaluation.

Market Analysis

Stay abreast of industry developments, competitor pricing strategies, and emerging trends in both Commercial and Personal Lines of short-term insurance.

Provide insightful recommendations to senior management based on a nuanced understanding of market analysis.

Modeling and Analytics

Utilize advanced actuarial and statistical models to analyze data and forecast future trends, considering the unique dynamics of Commercial and Personal Lines.

Conduct scenario analysis and stress testing to assess the impact of various factors on pricing models for both segments.

Regulatory Compliance

Ensure stringent compliance with regulatory requirements, particularly those affecting both Commercial and Personal Lines of short-term insurance.

Contribute actively to the development of strategies that address changes in regulatory environments specific to these lines.

Collaboration

Work closely with cross-functional teams, including underwriting, finance, and data analytics, fostering collaboration to achieve shared business goals in both Commercial and Personal Lines.

Communicate complex actuarial concepts clearly and concisely to non-technical stakeholders.

Documentation and Reporting

Document pricing methodologies and assumptions meticulously for internal and external reporting purposes in both Commercial and Personal Lines.

Generate reports to effectively track and communicate key performance indicators related to pricing strategies for both segments.

Desired Experience & Qualification

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's or advanced degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • Fellowship with a recognized actuarial body (e.g., SOA, CAS).
  • Proven experience in pricing within the short-term insurance industry, with a focus on both Commercial / Personal Lines.
  • Strong proficiency in actuarial Modeling software and statistical analysis tools.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Effective communication skills with the ability to present complex concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
