Accountant

Introduction

The Midland Group is searching for an experienced accountant who will be responsible for both general and financial accounting; managing financial records and transactions; ensuring accurate financial reporting; tracking expenses; analysing financial data; providing insights to aid business decision-making, and ensuring the organisation’s compliance with all financial regulations while preparing and examining various financial documents. Additionally, the accountant will be tasked with reconciling accounts, identifying discrepancies, and supporting financial audits. Lastly, the accountant will perform general accounts receivable, accounts payable and administrative tasks, amongst any other assigned tasks.

Duties & Responsibilities

The accountant will be responsible for the following, including, but not limited to:

•    Ledger Accounts and Recons;

•    Recording financial transactions;

•    Reconciling accounts and statements;

•    Preparing financial statements;

•    Generating financial reports;

•    Budgeting and forecasting;

•    Analysing financial data;

•    Providing tax documentation;

•    Performing accounts payable tasks;

•    Performing accounts receivable tasks;

•    Tracking diesel, stock (including seeds, livestock and wildlife) and sales;

•    Ensuring compliance with all relevant statutory regulations, and

•    Assisting during financial audits.

•    Performing any other tasks relevant to the role.

•    Performing ad hoc tasks as requested from time to time.

Requirements

• Grade 12 or equivalent (essential).

• A relevant Bachelor’s degree or equivalent qualification will be advantageous.

• Must be Computer literate and competent in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint) and accounting software.

• At least 3 - 5 years of experience in a similar position.

• Knowledge of accounting principles and regulations.

• Experience in financial reporting and analysis.

• Experience in the debtors and creditors functions will be advantageous.

• Experience in the Agriculture and Food Manufacturing Industry will be beneficial to the applicant

• Must be a good team player and be able to work independently.

• Must be able to work well under pressure and act in an accurate and timeous manner.

• Excellent problem-solving ability.

• A high degree of attention to detail.

• Strong mathematical and analytical skills.

• Deadline-oriented and able to operate in a fast-paced work environment.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
